Why can't I copy/paste interactions anymore?

It worked completely fine before last release. It’s disrupting my workflow tremendously.

Is that expected? or is it a bug?

Hi everyone — thanks so much for all the detail, collaboration, and testing you brought in here.

Good news to share: After touching base with the Technical Quality team, they've confirmed Engineering pushed a fix that should resolve this. If you haven't already, please close and reopen your files — after that, copying individual interactions should work as expected again. ✅

If anyone's still seeing it after reopening, let us know here and we'll dig back in. Thanks again!

Thanks for your post, and hello, @Silvia Gamboa! That’s unfortunate that this is disrupting your workflow.

Are you copying within the same file, or between different files? Also, are you specifically trying to copy just the interaction itself, or are you copying a component that has an interaction and expecting that interaction to present on the new copy/instance? I tested the latter and it worked for me, which is the expected behavior when copying layers.

Still seems to be broken in 126.6.14, Mac Desktop and web.

@adamsmasher - Same for me. Mac Desktop v126.6.14, and the web browser version. Command-C just refuses to copy any interaction, and only pastes in whatever I copied previously (text, images, etc).

Going through the support issue history, this seems to have been happening off and on for years now. It’d be super helpful to have a dedicated ‘Copy interactions’ button or menu item so this feature is a bit more bullet-proof.

Cheers!

@adamsmasher - Doh! That last reply was from my free account. This is from my Org paid account.

No worries, @Jason_Thompson! Heads up, I also merged your other post by your free account onto this post so we can keep the conversation all in one place. In the time since my reply to @Silvia Gamboa, I did a bit more testing and found that copying interactions in specific is inconsistent. Sometimes I need to deselect any layers so I see all interactions showing, then click on one and copy again for it to work (and sometimes this took a couple tries). I’m checking with the team for more information.

In the meantime, are you using the Windows or Mac desktop app? I tested in Chrome as well as the newest version of the Mac OS desktop app (126.7.8 - newer than what you provided, so I recommend updating just so we’re all on the same version). Are you copying with a keyboard shortcut (how I was doing it), or by going to the menu?

Jason_Thompson

Thanks @adamsmasher,  I had done the ‘Check for Updates’ option in Figma desktop, but it said I had the latest. I just downloaded new from the website and replaced the old, and now I’m on 126.7.8.

I was on Mac OS Version 15.7.3, but just upgraded to 15.7.7 to see if that would help, but it didn’t.

No matter how many times I tried to copy / paste (Command-C, Command-V) from the blue left side of the interaction, or the purple arrow, the interaction would not copy, and will only paste a text or image that was copied prior to that. Best I could do was copy the whole component variant and paste that in, then modify the interactions.

HOWEVER, I just tried copying and pasting simple interactions between other simpler components and it worked! Then tried to copy and paste more complex interactions from one component to another, and those worked too, but the original component I was trying to copy interactions from still wouldn’t copy, though I could paste the interactions from the other, simpler components.

So then I deleted the original complex interaction that wouldn’t copy, re-created it from scratch, and it copied and pasted to other components! My guess is I’d modified the order of the interactions so much, that particular component’s interactions got corrupted and wouldn’t copy at all. Deleting and recreating the interactions reset the corruption…?

However, I’m now seeing that my pasted ‘Set variable mode’ interaction is not sticking, so I have to assign a mode and value for each time I paste it. Still not ideal, but a bit better.

I’d still push for that ‘Copy interactions’ button or menu item rather than having the hidden copy hack. Cheers!

Hello @adamsmasher !

My issue is building prototypes, not on components.

I’m using Figma Desktop App version 126.6.14. on Tahoe 26.1. (I also tried on Web version)

My normal workflow was working beautifully.

  1. I copied an interaction on a prototype (just selected the blue line of the interaction and hit Command + C. It was never from the right side panel.)
  2. I selected the layer/component where I wanted that interaction on all the prototype
  3. Used “Select matching layers”
  4. Pasted the interaction on all (Command + V)
  5. Done

Now every time I try to copy the blue line interaction it doesn’t work. It pastes the component with the interaction, or any text I had on my clipboard.

My normal workflow took me less than a minute to complete a big prototype. Now is making me select layer by layer to add the interaction. Or copy the component and placed it correctly again and again.

Grady_Mark_ESI

I’m having the same problem.

Desktop app version 126.3.12
Chrome browser 150.0.7871.182

I’m selecting an object with an interaction in Prototype mode, selecting either the interaction noodle or the interaction from the right hand panel, using Cmd+C or right/option click and selecy “Copy” from the menu, then selecting the target object, then usinf Cmd + V or right/option click and select “Paste”.

In any combination the pasted item is either a copy of the source object (complete with interaction noodle) or the item I copy and pasted BEFORE I selected the interaction I wanted to duplicate.

This appears to also be broken in the browser environment too, so whatever this is appears to be a core issue, not environemtnal.

An yes, I’ve force quit the desktop, cleared caches in both desktop and mobile environments, switched my computer off and back on again ...

I also noticed the same issue just now, exactly as @Silvia Gamboa described. It was so useful feature to copy only the interaction and paste it to another layer/component.

I use Figma Desktop App version 126.7.10 on macOS Sequoia Version 15.7.7

I just updated to 126.7.10 and it still doesn’t work.

A report was officially created here. Is there anything else we should do to help solve this bug?

Yes, same issue. How are you guys checking your version? Is there an about section I am not seeing? Can you check if there’s updates? I don’t understand.

Same problem.

If this feature is dead please replace the torturous GUI with a code panel we can copy and paste interaction from granularly.

I keep making tests on my side.

@Tom Reem @adamsmasher

I just copy-pasted an entire prototype on a new file :

  • It doesn’t paste the prototype starting points
  • It copies half of the interactions

The interactions that won’t copy are the ones that contain multiple items.

But if I add a “Section” around the prototype, and copy-paste the section it copies all interactions correctly.

The real problem it’s still copy-pasting individual interactions. That never works now.

I really hope that you can get to this bug, or give us tools to help you point to the problem to solve it.

Hi, same issue here - I just noticed this a few weeks ago. It’s tripled the time it takes for me to create prototypes now. It’s very frustrating to have to manually create each prototype interaction over and over again for sometimes 60+ screens (creating a component with the link and then using that component is a workaround, but that’s a lot of recreating and restructuring of designs). And multiply the effort by each component that needs an interaction...makes prototype-making painful. Please bring back the copy pasting of prototype links!!!  🙏🏼

Hello @Carolyn Zhao !

Figmates suggested to Report a Bug:

  • Open the Support Hub → click Start a chat → type "Report a bug"
  • Share the affected file with support-share@figma.com with view access

Here is other thread where we discussed this same issue.

I hope this gets solved soon!

Can confirm that is fixed! ✅ (at least for me)

Thank you so much @Tom Reem !

@Tom Reem thanks a lot. I tested too and it works as it was before.
