Can't see distances between elements, even in Design mode and after trying everything
Problem description:
Hi Figma team, Since the last update, I can no longer see the distance between elements when I select one and hold down the Option key (on Mac) while hovering over another. I’ve tried everything suggested:
Using Option or Alt + hover over another element.
Switching from Draw to Design mode in the bottom right of the interface.
Restarting Figma, opening new files, updating the app, clearing the cache, trying the web version, and even disabling plugins.
Nothing has worked and the problem persists, even though I used to see the measurements with no problem before.
I would really appreciate some help, since this tool is essential in my workflow and it’s causing me a lot of issues.
Thank you!

Workaround:
Set your zoom to 390%
Use calipers
hahaha that’s definetly NOT the way 🤣
Same issue, Option key just turns cursor into duplicate tool and that’s it.
Tried to restart, clean cache, use browser etc etc etc, nothing works.
This is Incredibly annoying.
I love this thread
One of the stupid workarounds would be to select the objects you want to measure and mouse over the pink line between them to see the distance. Or manually measure everything using Shift+M Measure tool (which then stays on screen, which drives me nuts).
Figma please fix this already. I feel so powerless and it’s driving me nuts!!!
LOL
Same. Opt+hover is how I measure distances so it’s rather disruptive.
Latest desktop app, MBP Sequoia 15.6.1.
Is there any update on this one? Desktop 125.8.9, MacOS Sequoia 15.7.1. Can barely work with this feature broken… :(
Dev here - really irritating to integrate with this tool suddenly gone

Yes, same thing just happened to me. It is very frustrating. I have tried everything. I think it’s a bug @figma needs to fix this asap.

Hi there,
As some of you may have already noticed, our engineering team has released a fix for the recent issue.
If you’ve run into this problem recently, please refresh your tab and try using the shortcut again to confirm if it’s now working.
Thanks again for flagging this and for your patience while we worked on the fix!
I don't have it either :((((
Same issue. Tried on 3 accounts, 2 machines. I’ve tried freaking everything and I need to design my wedding dinner menu tonight.
@fam hoped you see the update & did the dinner menu went well? 🤣🤣
@djv
Mine was just solved after updating MacOS. Below is what I have now after the issue was solved. I’ll add comments if it happens on my other Mac with the same setting.
- Latest Figma Desktop App version
- macOS Tahoe 26.0.1
- All types & all files
I have same issue as well
Hey @Uchenna Nwafor, thanks for chiming in here!
When was the last time you refreshed your tabs? After the team pushed the fix yesterday, most users had the issue resolved after refreshing and/or updating Figma to the latest version.
Please let us know if you continue to have issues.
I had the same issue. Just reloaded all tabs and it worked fine for me.
On Mac OS, just do: Figma Menu → Check For Updates → and when prompted to install new update, click on ‘Reload All Tabs’.
I hope it helps.
Glad to hear the fix worked for you, @Mouhyib!
Thanks for chiming in with step-by-step instructions for the community. 😊
