Problem description:
Hi Figma team,
Since the last update, I can no longer see the distance between elements when I select one and hold down the Option key (on Mac) while hovering over another. I’ve tried everything suggested:
- Using Option or Alt + hover over another element.
- Switching from Draw to Design mode in the bottom right of the interface.
- Restarting Figma, opening new files, updating the app, clearing the cache, trying the web version, and even disabling plugins.
Nothing has worked and the problem persists, even though I used to see the measurements with no problem before.
I would really appreciate some help, since this tool is essential in my workflow and it’s causing me a lot of issues.

This definitely seems odd. I just tested measuring distances between layers in Figma and ran into no issues using the desktop app or the browser on macOS. I even tested it in Draw > Design > Dev mode with no issues.
Are you using the most up to date version of the app? Is your macOS up to date as well? Is this happening with all types of layers on your canvas or just a specific set of elements?
With a few more details, we can try to pinpoint together what may be causing the issue.
This seems to be a bug that occasionally happens after updates. Checking if Snap to Pixel or Smart Guides settings are enabled might help restore the distance display.
You should check if there`s any layer behind it, I was just with the same issue and there was a giant component behind my design that was preventing me from getting the correct measurement between frames inside it. I simply arranged the frames correctly and locked the lanes and it is now working again.

- Are you using the most up to date version of the app?
- Is your macOS up to date as well?
- Is this happening with all types of layers on your canvas or just a specific set of elements?

Hey team, this just happened to me as well. Can’t figure out how to resolve it.
- Yes I’m using the most up-to-date version of the app.
- This is affecting both the Figma app for MacOS and figma.com
- I’m on MacOS 15.3 (24D60) but I’m pretty sure this is a Figma issue and not me issue.
- No, I do not have a giant object obstructing the view. It occurs on every element in a file.

Just happened to me as well.
Same thing happening here. It was working fine about an hour ago, but now suddenly the Alt key doesn’t measure distances.
Same thing happening to me! Works on my laptop but not my desktop. (Same account logged in both places, same settings, etc)

I thought it was just me! I’m on mac and when I press on option, it usually shows me the pixel distance between elements. Now it’s just the duplicate selection tool that shows up! This never happened until an hour ago...
same for me, just updated and its gone, mac os, latest os
The same issue is effecting me also. Alt/option key doesn’t measure distances on standard app or beta.
- MacOS 15.7
- Figma 125.8.9 and Figma Beta 125.9.4
- Checked in a new, clean file and the same issue.
