Question

Can’t edit the text layer while double clicking the text layer, or any kind of text

Double-clicking a text layer won’t let me edit it. The layer is not locked. This issue seemed to be resolved in past for other users, but the solution has not been mentioned in the thread. I am first time coming across this issue. Please guide.

If you select the text layer and press Enter (PC) or Return (Mac) it will enter edit mode. This should be useful if you can’t enable editing by double-clicking for whatever reason.

Hey! This trick is working thank you so muchhhhhhhh……..

If it is a copy of a main component, you will not be able to change its text frame. Instead, go to the main component and adjust the text frame from there.

If you’re working with a team and you can’t edit the text your team member wrote, it could be that they used a font that you do not have on your computer.
I encountered this problem and I solved it after I changed the font in Typography!

It just doesn't work. It is installed at source. I can't seem to change the font, I can't edit - there is a bug in the Figma and not "the project". I didn't lock the task and start it again, it didn't work.

Hi @Jhones Souza 👋 I think we need a bit more info before I can give you a solid answer.

  • Is the layer an instance (purple diamond) or a plain text layer? If it's nested in an instance, try selecting the main component and editing there, or detach the instance to confirm the font changes freely once detached. If it edits fine when detached, it's likely override scoping
  • Is SF Pro Text actually available locally, or is it showing as a missing font? A font that's referenced but not resolving will sometimes appear set but refuse edits
  • When you try to change the font, does the dropdown not respond, does it revert, is SF Pro missing from the list, or does the text not enter edit mode at all?

Thanks for the additional details! — Jaycee

Hi @Jaycee Lewis ,

  • Plain text.

  • Yes, the font is available locally. I can use it in Photoshop, for example.

  • It doesn't enter text editing mode. Even when I try to insert a new text layer, Figma seems to interpret the keystrokes as commands instead of typing text.

Hey, @Jhones Souza 👋 Thanks for the quick reply. Before I can escalate this, I’ll need to gather a few more details if possible:

  • Is this the same file/session as the width issue, or a separate report?
  • When you double-click a text layer or press T and click, does the cursor never appear at all — or does it appear but characters don't register?
  • Does it happen across all files, or just this one? (Isolates account/app-level vs. file-level.)
  • What OS + are you on the desktop app or browser? Keystrokes-as-commands can be a focus/IME or keyboard-layout symptom

Thanks! — Jaycee
