Can’t edit the text layer while double clicking the text layer, or any kind of text

It is still happening on 2024 with Monterey… but your tip about reducing that setting on the mouse worked for me… It is a problem with Figma that they should fix…

I was having the same issue and then realized the Dropbox folder that was hosting the fonts was not syncing which caused the Typeface app to not load them… and for some reason Figma did not send the standard error that usually does when missing fonts!

Once I synced the fonts folder properly everything went back to normal!

I have the same issue after switching to a new Mac with Ventura. I’m using an older magic mouse, and there’s no double click option in setting. I also found: “triple-click” works every time.
Maybe somehow my Figma registers the “double-click” after a first click?
Curious if “triple-click” also works for other people.

Experiencing exactly the same issue. Double click not working on desktop Figma app. Neither is press Enter to edit text.

Both work in browser editor, but not on desktop app.

Extremely frustrating that one of the core features of the app doesn’t work straight out of the box. What’s going on?

Hey ​@alexznicholson - I tried replicating this on my end, but I seem to be able to double-click on trackpad and wireless mouse to edit the text. I can also hit enter/return to edit text as well.

However, I am on a different OS than you, so I’m not sure if that could play a role. For yourself individually: are you seeing this behavior across all files you try to work on, or does it only seem to be specific ones? Does it only seem to be in only specific text boxes on certain pages, or just all of them? I can look into this more -- if I can get more of those details, that would be helpful.

This was driving me crazy as well but got it fixed!  I have a MacBook Air with just the trackpad so no settings adjustment was working for me.  Had to install SF Pro font on my Mac and then install them to Figma.  Follow the steps in this article: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/24037833895831-Get-started-with-Apple-s-UI-kit

I solved the issue for me...I’m not sure if this is what anyone else was experiencing.  So double click the text you want to edit and go under “Typography” in the Design Panel.  To the right of the pre-selected style, a little symbol only appears if you hover over the area and it says “Detach Style”.  The symbol looks like a chain that’s breaking.  Below that is another that says “Detach Variable” next to the pre-selected variable.  Now I just created a new page and didn’t create any style or variables so I’m not sure how these got created?  It’s taken me hours to figure this out which feels so silly.  Can’t even change the font in a program.  

Did you make sure, that the textbox is set, where you want do double-click? You can’t double-click text outside the text-box.

I have an updated solution for this.

I started noticing that my type cursor (both on trackpad and magic mouse) was not surfacing, preventing the ability to make text edits. Also had an issue with double clicking, but I thought something was wrong with my mouse.

I unknowingly did this to myself when I wanted to increase the tracking speed (for both trackpad and mouse). If you want to increase the tracking speed, use the “mouse” section in the left-hand nav of your macbook settings. Changing this shouldn’t disable the type cursor surfacing in Figma.

BUT if you somehow stumble across the ‘double-click speed’ (Accessibility > Pointer control) and have THAT at max, you gotta bring it down (just keep it in the middle). Double-click speed in Macbook setting should be brought down or kept in the middle - not max.

When the double-click speed is at max, it interferes with the controls in Figma - because the speed is too fast.

So, it’s OK to have the tracking speed at max but not the double-click speed!

Most of the times it is because the text element is grouped with some other element. If that is the case, ungroup it, edit it and then group it back
