AI Credits Used Up On Failed Attempts

Hi, I think I may have lost AI credits due to failed generations, and I’m also seeing conflicting UI messaging.

I initially entered prompts through the main AI prompt text input while on the Files page, but both attempts failed with “Something went wrong” errors (example ID: 55a3160f-8fcc-4aca-82ac-0ad25065a110). Nothing was ever successfully generated from those attempts.

After that, I backed out and tried again from a blank FigJam board instead (which I believe is the intended workflow for brainstorming/mind maps), but it then said I was out of AI credits and would not let me run the prompt — so I was unable to generate anything there either.

What’s confusing is that I’m seeing conflicting credit information:

  • A banner says: “Your Full seat is out of AI credits until they reset on Jun 12”

  • But the AI balance panel shows 316 credits remaining, with 0/150 daily credits left and a Jun 30 reset date.

It seems possible the failed requests still counted against my daily credits, or there may be a UI issue/conflicting state. I’ve attached screenshots for reference.

Would it be possible to review and restore any credits associated with the failed requests, or clarify what happened? At no point did an AI-generated output actually complete or appear. This was my first time trying Figma AI.

Thank you!

Hi, @CharleneAtlas. Thanks for your post - it sounds like you’re having a confusing time managing AI credits.

When you say you did this from the Files page, you mean within Figma Design when selected on File on the left side nav bar, correct? I just want to make sure I understand where you were using it. Did you try using the retry button or refreshing? I can help get you in touch with support to provide debug information, but I want to know if either of those worked for you before we do that. By the way, I don’t see the screenshot you mentioned - could you provide that again?

Regarding the credit usage itself, it sounds like you’ve got the Starter plan which has a daily limit and monthly limit. The messages you saw are telling you that you have 312 credits left for the month, and that you can use more of them the following day (up to 150). Does that make sense?

I used it on the figma.com page, where it loads previews of your files. I have attached a screenshot, and also the screenshots I didn’t include before.

And yes, I understand the message about daily credits, the issue is that the credits went to zero for the day even though no content was generated.

Thanks!

Charlene

Ahh, ok, @CharleneAtlas, I understand. Thank you for the screenshots! I’m going to make a ticket with our support team for you, but before I do could you let me know if there are any Make files created from your attempts from the Files page? I wasn’t sure if it gave the error but there was a file created (even if it it appears blank). Thanks!

Hello, I am having a similar issue. i wanted to generate some ui pages on Make and after a while of it “working”, it failed. It didn’t generate anything but it counted against my ai credit budget. It used about a third of my monthly credits with this generation

Hi, @Alexandra Hunts  - thanks for your reply! It sounds like you had a confusing time after getting that error message. Happy to help clarify what happened and how your credits fit in.

That error message is a capacity issue with the particular model used - something we are actively working to increase. The good news is that failed generation due to model overload doesn’t consume credits. They are only consumed once something is successfully generated. Having said that, if you haven’t used AI credits - elsewhere in different Make files or in other areas of Figma - and are certain they were used by Make with this particular prompt, let me know.

Did you try clicking the “try again” button? Another option you can try is switching to a different model. I wasn’t sure if you used the default or selected a particular model since that part of the interface in your screenshot isn’t included.

I searched my Files and there is one Make file and it is empty. I don’t recall if I saw a Try Again button, but if I did I am sure I clicked it. I have never generated anything in Figma, this was my first attempt and nothing was created. Can I have the credits back, please? Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the additional detail and for checking, @CharleneAtlas. I realized I actually tagged you by mistake when I meant to tag @Alexandra Hunts in my reply (sorry for the confusion!). In the meantime, I’ve created a ticket with our support team so they can investigate more deeply with what happened with your Make file and your credits.

@adamsmasher I had a similar issue earlier. While trying to make some edits to my make file, the prompt window reported an error - 43386adb-2fc5-47b6-8f59-674b3518f408, and aborted execution. I lost 326 AI credits due to the failed attempt. A follow-up attempt of the same prompt succeeded. I wasn’t sure about the reason for the failure. While I understand these errors may have happened after the model call, given the error wasn’t a user error, would it be possible to reinstate the lost credits please?
