We are making some important updates to our Figma Education plan, including to our verification process.

Higher Education users

We are excited to be rolling out our new product, Figma Make, to the Education plan for higher education users over the next week!

In order to gain access to Figma Make, as well as maintain your current access to Education teams, higher education users will need to re-verify that they are a current student or staff member (even if you recently verified).

Please visit figma.com/education/apply to re-verify. If you don’t re-verify your status by Sept 29th, your Education teams will be converted to Starter teams and you will lose access to Professional plan features.

High School users

In order to maintain your current access to Education teams, High School users need to re-verify that they are a current student or staff member with their school domain.

Please visit figma.com/education/apply to re-verify. If you don’t re-verify your status by Sept 29th, your Education teams will be converted to Starter teams and you will lose access to Professional plan features.

Please stay tuned for any future updates regarding access to Figma Make, Figma AI and Figma Sites to High School users.

Note: Educators of all grades are welcome to sign up.

  • K-12 educators who want access for themselves should select High School as their institution type when completing the application process.
  • If you are not a high school educator but want to use Figma with your students, please submit an application at figma.com/education/k-12.

Bootcamp users

We are moving away from a self-verification model for bootcamp students. Instead, bootcamps will verify on behalf of their students and educators.

  • If you are a current bootcamp student or educator, there is no action needed from you. Please reach out to your bootcamp directly with any questions.
  • If you are a bootcamp admin, you should apply to join our list of trusted partners and verify your students directly. If your bootcamp is not approved by Sept 29th, all Education teams will be converted to Starter teams.

Hi everyone — following up on our earlier post about the Education reverification grace period, we want to share what’s happening next and what steps you can take to maintain access to your work.

Over the next few weeks, Education teams without a reverified owner will be downgraded to free Starter teams. What you experience will depend on:

  • Whether you’ve reverified your own Education status
  • Whether you are a team owner or team member
  • How many files and projects are on the team

What to expect if you have not reverified

If you’re an Education team owner

The team owner is typically who created or upgraded the team. You can find out who your team owner is directly in the file browser. Your team will be downgraded to a free Starter team. Within a Starter team, you can continue to collaborate and access your files, but there are limits.

Starter teams can only have 3 files and 1 project. When your team is converted from EDU Pro to Starter:

  • If the team has 3 or fewer files and only 1 project - You’ll retain edit access, but lose Professional features.
  • If the team has 4+ files or more than 1 project - Your team will be locked from file editing - all members, including verified ones, will have ‘can view’ access to team files.

You can:

If you’re a team member (not owner)

You’ll be downgraded to ‘can view’ access on any Education teams you were part of, and files within Education teams.

You can:

❓FAQ

I’m no longer eligible for an Education plan. What now?

You can continue using the free Starter plan and working within Figma. If you still need access to Professional features, upgrade to Professional plan.

Depending on your previous access, you have several options to make sure you can still edit files:

My team is locked. How can I get my files?

Your team is locked because the team owner did not reverify their Education status. While you won’t be able to move files in a locked team, you can either:

If you have verified your Education status you can always create a new Professional Education team. Creating a new team makes you the team owner.

I verified my education status, but the team I’m on still converted to Starter. Why?

Team access depends on the team owner’s verification status. If the team owner hasn’t reverified, the team will be converted to Starter, even if you have reverified. Ask your team owner to reverify or move your files to another team or your drafts. You can find out who your team owner is directly in the file browser.
