Why was support for fluid smart animation between reshaped shapes discontinued?

One of the things I use Figma for constantly, is robust and fluid animations using multiple frames of reformed shapes. Throughout the past month though, I’ve been trying to create shape animations and no matter what I do, the animations always default to the dissolve animation. The only information on this I’ve found online thus far is this new documentation:

Figma doesn’t support smart animate for changes to Effects, or moving between shapes. If a property isn’t supported, Figma will apply a default dissolve transition.

@Figma, why was this changed?

@Community, have you found a way around this?
