What system requirements figma requires the most

Hi! It’s my first topic here :)

I have a question about figma and it’s system requirements because I plan on investing into a new PC (windows) and I want to ensure it’s future proof and the specs I pick fit Figma’s needs.

My current pain point is that I see a ton of lag on a 16GB RAM PC with moderate-level CPU. It’s a $800 type of budget pc that is 2 years old.

And I need to know basically the following: On a 4k screen, to keep figma smoothly running with large files (50+ components, 20+ frames per page, 100+ variables etc) what do I need:

  • Minimim RAM for smooth running; Is 64GB plenty even for the next 5 years of updates and features?
  • What in the CPU does figma care about
  • What in the GPU does figma care about, to what extend? Is it VRAM?
  • Is there anything else?

Of course I understand about keeping drivers up to date, working on the desktop app and so on.

Thank you!

Hi @Alex Dimitrov, Thanks for reaching out and welcome to our community!

I just checked internally and, regrettably, we don't have any official PC specifications or recommendations to share at the moment. However, as noted in the Unsupported graphics cards  section of the "What are the system requirements for Figma?", this GPU is known to have bugs that may lead to rendering glitches.

  • Intel HD Graphics 3000

Thank you for reporting the performance issues you're currently experiencing.

Figma is built on browser-based technologies, which means each browser has its own active memory limit. This limit, typically around 2GB per tab, applies even when using the desktop application. If you're encountering difficulties with large files, please try reviewing this guide: Reducing memory usage

Thank you for the response, the 2 GB memory limit on the desktop app is good insight too. I think this answers my question - generally modern medium-level CPU and 32GB ram should be enough to function with it’s current implementation. Fingers crossed for more performance focus in the near future, I hope it doesn’t become heavy like Adobe products that are basically unusable. Cheers!

Don’t spec your computer for Figma, spec it for any tool you might need…

Alex Dimitrov

I understand, but Figma is 80% of the tools being used. The rest is PS/AI and a browser. So I wanted to make sure that for the majority of the work, I can expect the best performance possible.

PS will rather be more demanding than Figma so well...
