Hi, is there a way for someone with view-only access to change a layer variable? I use it for different languages and want a view-only user to be able to modify the value and export it in the selected language.

Hi @Dennis_Celen , Thanks for reaching out about this.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no native method to switch between modes when you are a viewer of that file. You can find more information below.

However, this could be a valuable feature request, please consider posting this idea as a feature request in the “Share an idea” category: Share an idea - Figma Community Forum

One possible workaround is for the viewer to duplicate the file to be able to switch the mode if that’s allowed. Also, It is uncertain if this applies to your specific situation, but in Prototype, the Set variable mode action can be utilized to alter the variable mode. You can find more details here: Variable modes in prototypes

I hope this information clarifies things a bit. We welcome any additional workarounds from members of our community. Please feel free to share them.

Thank you once again for reaching out.
