Hey All! I’m currently cleaning up my design system from unnecessary unused libraries. And Figma shows the amount of used instances/styles/variables, but there’s no way to see in file where they are.

Is there an auto way (maybe a plugin?) to find and remove remnants/footprints of styles and instances from detached libraries? Such libraries are marked “Used in this file” Thanks!

Hi @EVGG, Thanks for reaching out about this.

While we're waiting to hear from the community, I've explored the available plugins, but unfortunately, I haven't found one that's specifically designed to locate and remove instances or styles.

However, here are a couple of steps you could try.

To locate the instances:

  1. In the "Manage libraries" modal, click on the thumbnail listing under the "Used in this file" section.
  2. Drag an instance from the modal onto the canvas.
  3. Select the instance you just added and use a plugin like Instance Finder
Note: You can also use the “Select all with same instance” option from the actions menu, but when you use this action you’ll need to do this for each page.

To locate the styles:

  1. Use the same approach as above.
  2. Hover over a style in the modal to see its name.
  3. Use a plugin like Style Finder to locate matching styles in your file.

You might also want to check out “Use Case 2: Unlink unwanted library” on the  Missing Library Usage Finder  page.

I understand this isn’t an ideal solution, and I’m sure our community members might have better suggestions. If you get stuck at any point, please don’t hesitate to contact our support.

Thanks again for reaching out!
