Question

Facing Boolean issue, Frame keep disappearing.

shrey shukla

Facing boolean issue.

The frame is disappearing after performing Boolean.

Created a new file but still the issue persists. Also restarted figma, to clear the caches.

Facing this issue in latest figma version.

Did, tried searching but the problem is so simple their are no proper solution.

You can only subtract on shapes. Use a rectangle instead of a frame. And that’s not a boolean btw.

Yes, I needed a rectangle instead of a frame. And yes that how Boolean work in correct case. if you need, I can record a example for you.

I don’t understand, but i’m pretty sure you tried to subtract a shape layer to a frame (And of course it’ll kill the frame). Can you also please explain to me what do you mean by Boolean?

I think you are got confuse with Create Properties -> Boolean properties (For yes/no event, showing/Hiding a item) and Boolean shape ( subtracting or adding 2 different shapes). Well thanks Boolean shape only work with Draw item not with frames.

- you cannot subtract 2 frames, it only work with shapes.

I see. I didn’t know Figma named them boolean (which for me doesn’t make sense since there are 4 or 5 different values how the hell did they come up with it). Adobe is more direct naming them pathfinder

Its a 3D concept. As I use Blender 3D for modelling, Booleans are very common terminology, when you are adding or removing a part of a object, they are live and can be moved, scale and rotate as long as you don’t “apply” them.

Michael Phillips

When using Boolean operations in Figma, sometimes if the shapes don't overlap correctly or if one of the layers has no fill, it can cause the result to look like it disappears. Also, if you're trying to apply Boolean directly to a frame instead of shapes inside it, that could cause issues.
