Hello!

One of our students, who has previously been verified and joined our team in the end of May this year, recently received a letter informing him that his access to the Education Plan will expire in 4 weeks and he should be verified. So he verified again. Is that mean that from now he can use Education plan for 2 years?

Hey @Manager_Progress, thanks for reaching out about this!

Yes this is correct- the student status is valid for 2 years. If the student unable to re-verify their student status after the 2 years the plan will simply lock. A locked team means they won’t be able to edit any files, but they can view them.

Can’t I transfer the projects or files to the free team after expiration?

Hey @Sreenath_Kumar, thank you for reaching out!

When the plan expires, account will be downgraded ‌to the Starter plan. This will limit the account to have one project and up to three files that can be edited. Any files beyond this limit will switch to view-only.‌ However, rest assured that your files won’t be deleted after the plan changes.

For more details on what’s included in the Starter plan, I recommend checking out this article:

Figma plans and features

If you’re planning to transfer projects to another team or account, I’d also suggest doing so before the plan downgrades to avoid any restrictions. This guide will walk you through how to do that:

Transfer a project or team to a different account

Alternatively, if you’d like to keep access to additional files in the existing account you may want to consider upgrading to a paid plan; you can find more information on that here:

Upgrade to a paid plan.
