Can a file be edited by an account from another team without charging the owner team?

This is very frustrating and we are looking not only to move all of our files away from Figma as it completely disrupts our ability to work with our clients and other designers and developers we are also going to start promoting using the open source incredibly brilliant application Penpot. 2.0 just came out and it’s worth taking a look at if your stuck and locked into Figma dirty game. Penpot 2.0 release is out now! CSS Grid Layout, Components and a new UI

I’m also going to do some research into the legal ramifications Figmas ability to do what they are doing here. And will post back as soon as I find out more.

@figma I’m chiming in to state that if you have a Figma Pro account, you should be able to access files shared by other Figma Pro account holders at no additional cost.

I cannot believe this still hasn’t been addressed. It’s an outrageous way to operate, milking paying customers. As someone rightly mentions, how can this be legal? Automatically charging an account twice with no warning.

This issue is becoming more and more frustrating. Might have to look into XD or dust off Sketch.

Hi there, we would like this to be addressed. Thank you.

Upvoting this to also be resolved. This is not transparent and agencies need to be able to share files with other paid accounts without additional fees. I know of no other software that follows this model.

Another design agency here complaining about this same issue three years old… come on Figma listen to your community. I pay for a seat, my contractor pays for his own seat on his own account. I should be able to allow him to edit without paying for me, him and him paying for him. Make this make sense??

wanted to reply to this but realized Emily’s response didnt show. it is as follows:

Each team is responsible for payment for all ‘full’ (editors) seats who have access to the team or your team’s files, regardless of whether that user belongs to another paid team or not. This is since team billing happens independently from the other.

Figma only checks the number of editors on the monthly billing date, which means you would not be billed for extra editors if you downgrade them before your billing date.

More on this here: Manage billing on the Professional plan

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I understand the way in which you explained this, however it clearly doesn’t make sense for an agency model as denoted by many Figma users on this thread and im sure many more. As a company, is there a way to hear how some of your user base uses this and adjust a plan appropirate for agencies that work with contractors who hold their own license. Even with your explanation, the pricing model doesnt make sense for our business model. Clearly im not alone in thinking this. Thoughts?

I’m facing the same issue. I usually work with other brands and each time the client’s representative want to adjust anything for quicker results, I’m charged ONE FULL SEAT by Figma, for like 40 minutes contents-editing from a marketing executive on the other brand. This does not makes sense at all, and I can not tell my client that they aren’t able to edit the file because that we will charge them some fifteen dollars for the right to edit texts on their UI. Please help to raise voice about this issue, we would really appreciate if there is a better solution to this matter!

Hi!
I’m in an agency and I work with a lot of clients.

Each time I’ve tried to onboard a client in the Figma process, the edit account of my client is added to my bill… I want them to manage their own accounts while keeping the file property till the end of the job.
Do I miss the right way to share ???

Now that I know, I have very well understand…
I hope that this dark pattern will not be applied to the dev mode 🙏
Because I work with a lot of external companies and so with a lot of developers

Leave alone clients, I am facing this issue even for cross teams collaboration. This is day light robbery, I guess its time to move to MOTIFF

This is the Figma’s answer. Connected projects which will be introduced in 2025.

Connected projects will let two separate teams or organizations—like an agency and a client—work together in a shared project using billable seats from their own plans.

Well, this is exactly what we are requesting for.. except for the connection limits.

Only 3 connections for professional users!?  6 for organization and 15 for enterprise!?

Come on Figma! You should really research about how agencies are working.
