Arrange New Variants Horizontally

Steve5

When creating a new variant it pushes the new instance down below the existing variant. I know I can hold CMD and resize the bounding box then rearrange the variant to the side, but is there a way to make Figma default to add the new variant to the side instead of to the bottom of the existing variant?

Thanks
Steve

Hi @Steve5. You can use these methods:

  • When you clicked “Add new variant”, convert your Component set to Auto Layout with horizontal direction;

Or

  • Create a second component to the side of the first, select both components and press “Combine as variants”.

@tank666 ahh, thanks! Auto layout makes sense, I didn’t think of applying it just after creating a new variant. I don’t always have two components to line up side by side, so I think that will be my solution. Thanks!
