Question

Video isn't playing on Figma Slides presentation mode on Desktop app but works on Browser?

Aaron_Charles
  • Previously, videos would autoplay on it’s own and it seems like Figma pushed an update which allowed us to have more granular control i.e. autoplay/loop/sound
  • But it seems like my video isn’t playing on presentation mode anymore irregardless of the video settings.
  • After troubleshooting, I found that this is an issue with Figma Desktop App as the video plays as intended on browser.
  • I have also updated my Figma Desktop App, restarted my computer etc but to no avail.

Just wondering if i’m the only one going through this 😕

I am also experiencing this issue. After uploading a video into my shape as a fill, i cant even play the video in editor mode and am not able to click the “autoplay” button.

+1, also experiencing this issue. Have autoplay checked, the video works fine in native players.

+1, I’m experiencing the same thing. it was working fine a few days ago, now it’s not playing no matter what I do. Kinda hoping this is fixed ASAP since I started a deck in Figma slides and would like to present it soon.

Did anyone get this to work yet? Only solution I can find is opening the deck in a browser window, having that browser window follow the presenter and just closing the audience view.

Hey All, thanks for flagging this and sorry for the trouble and lack of acknowledgement!

On July 18th, the Slides team launched the ability to click the right arrow to play videos. From what you’ve described, the issue is only happening in the desktop app? What OS are you using?

With a bit more context, I can flag this over to the Slides team to investigate.

Yeah, this happens when presenting using the desktop app. I’m on macOS Sonoma 14.6, Figma Desktop version 124.3.1.

Videos never play in a Desktop app window/tab, even after clicking the right arrow, whether or not they’re set to Autoplay. This is the case whether you use Present or Present + Notes. GIFs do not have this issue.

However if you copy the presentation link and open it in a browser (I use Chrome), videos work as expected, no issues. I have a video set to Autoplay and it plays as soon as I land on the slide when viewed in Chrome. That’s not the case when presenting using the Desktop app.

Thanks in advance, would appreciate an urgent fix here to unblock upcoming presentations!

Hey All,

The team started their investigation, and it’s worked so far as expected in the desktop app using .mov videos.

Is anyone still having issues? If so, what video types are you specifically having issue with? With more info, we’ll do our best to try to repro and work on a possible fix.

Thanks, @ekaterina.sharipova!

Are you able to share the .mov video you’re seeing this issue with? If so, we’ll pass it onto the Slides team to investigate further.

This might help some people but make sure you’re not applying some level of opacity. If you add an alpha channel to the video it will never play. This was my big dumb mistake. Once I set the opacity to 100%, it played videos everywhere.
