Font Installer Not Working on Figma Web

Noor2

Hello,

I only use Figma on the web, I can’t use the desktop app due to my computer macOS version. I have installed the Figma Font Installer, and it says that I can use local fonts on the web, but this is not working. Any solutions?

Best,

Hey All, thanks for reaching out!

We hear your frustration, but as Nellya pointed out, the primary reason that the font installer isn’t cooperating is likely your outdated macOS. The minimum operating system (OS) requirements is macOS 11 or later. We don't have older versions available for download that support macOS 10.

I wanted to also mention that I am using Google Chrome, and it’s not working.

Hi. Does your system comply with the Font Installer requires?

Browser requirements, yes, but my macOS is 10.13. I can’t update the system passed High Sierra (I tried and my computer couldn’t handle it so I reverted back). I don’t plan to change my computer either: it is working perfectly as new, and has had no problems all these years and love it. Is there a way around this?

Here is a screenshot of the Figma Font Installer confirming that I can use local fonts on the browser, so I don’t know why it’s not working.

I’m not sure there is the way to do something about it, because it seems like Figma and Font Installer don’t support your system.

You probably need to wait for a response from the Figma support team, maybe they will suggest something (maybe someone have a working older version of Font Installer).

It’s strange that it says that the font installer worked, but it doesn’t so I want to know why (this shows that it worked on my system, and I know that the browser is supported as Figma web works great there). I hope someone has an older version of the font installer to give it a try or hear back from the support team.

Thank you, Nellya, I appreciate it!

Yeah, it doesn’t work for me either. I tried Vivaldi and Arc, my local just won’t get recognized. Safari works fine. So I think it’s just Figma has bad support for their font installer plugin.

using figma through browser, worked okay until yesterday when it stopped rendering anything except google fonts..

i tried to install the figma agent (although i didn’t need it before!) but the installation isn’t working, and i can’t seem to find older versions of it.

i’m using a macOS High Sierra, iMac 27” from 2010, w 16gb ram,
when the desktop app stopped working i switched to the browser, Firefox (115 - latest).

I’m running macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 on my computer, but the font installer still isn't working in any browser I’ve tested—Safari, Chrome, and Edge. I’ve already reinstalled the fonts, restarted my computer, and uninstalled/reinstalled the font helper, but nothing has worked so far. Is there anything else I can try?

Same problem, same macOS version, same things tried. Doesn’t look like the proplem is on the user side.

Same for me. I tried everything else, but only installing the Figma Mac App fixed it.

Hi all,

Thanks for flagging this issue, and apologies for the inconvenience. Our technical quality team would like to investigate further - could you please submit this as a bug report using this link? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001744374

When reporting, please include:

  • Your device OS
  • Whether you're using web or desktop app
  • A copy of the font
  • If possible, a link to the design file (you can add support-share@figma.com as an editor, which won't impact your billing!)

Thanks for your patience while we work on this.

Hi @Lhmy @Julija4 @Princess @silvhua @KcfromT

Quick update on this issue - our engineering team has identified and fixed a potential problem in the font installer.

Could you please download the latest version from https://www.figma.com/downloads/ and see if that resolves the issue you were experiencing?

This issue is only on the browser app, so it shouldn’t happen if you are using Desktop app.

Please let me know if everything works correctly after the update or if you're still running into problems.

Thanks for your patience!

Toku
