The assets on my design file are still there but invisible? They aren’t hidden and I put them onto their own frame to be able to see them in hierarchy but still not visible. When highlighted you can see the skeleton to see they’re all there, just not visible. Anyone know how to fix?
Hello @Sadie_Goldberg, Thank you for reaching out about this!
I appreciate you sharing the screenshot. It seems like you are currently in outline mode.
To turn off the outline mode, please follow these steps:
- Open the Zoom/view options menu located on the right side of the toolbar.
- Navigate to Outlines > Show outlines.
- If “Show outline” is checked, please uncheck it.
- If “Show outline” is checked, please uncheck it.
You can learn more about this option here: View layer outlines in Figma Design
I hope this information helps. Please let us know how it goes.
Thank you once again for reaching out!
It sounds like your assets are still in the file, but something has made them invisible or hidden from view. Here are a few common causes and solutions to help you troubleshoot this issue:
1. Opacity Set to 0%
Check if the opacity of the assets (or their frame) is set to 0%. This would make them invisible, but they will still be there when highlighted in the layers panel.
How to check and fix:
- Select the asset (or frame) in the layers panel.
- In the Properties panel on the right, look for the Opacity slider under the “Layer” section.
- If it’s at 0%, move it back to 100%.
2. Layer Fill is Missing
Sometimes, the fill color or gradient might have been removed, leaving the object invisible even though it’s still on the canvas.
How to check and fix:
- Select the asset or frame.
- In the Properties panel, under Fill, ensure that a color or gradient is applied.
- If the Fill is set to “None,” add a fill color by clicking on the color box and selecting a color.
3. Clip Content Enabled
If Clip Content is enabled on a frame or group, and the frame or object is positioned outside the visible area, it might not show.
How to check and fix:
- Select the frame or group that contains your assets.
- Check if Clip Content is enabled in the Properties panel (under the “Frame” settings).
- Disable Clip Content to make sure all the child elements remain visible, or adjust the frame size to ensure everything inside it is within view.
4. Visibility in Layers Panel
Even though you mentioned that the objects aren’t hidden, double-check that the eye icon next to the layer or frame in the layers panel is not crossed out. This ensures that the layer is visible.
How to check and fix:
- In the Layers panel, ensure the eye icon is visible next to the asset or frame.
- If it’s grayed out or crossed, click on it to make the layer visible.
5. Layer Blend Mode
If the layer’s blend mode is set to something like “Difference” or “Exclusion”, it might cause it to blend with the background in a way that makes it appear invisible.
How to check and fix:
- Select the asset or frame.
- In the Properties panel, check the Blend Mode (under Layer settings).
- Set it to Normal to reset the blend mode.
6. Frames or Groups Nested Improperly
If your assets are inside a group or frame that’s been moved out of the visible area, they may appear invisible even though they’re technically still there.
How to check and fix:
- Select the parent frame or group in the Layers panel.
- Use the Move tool or arrow keys to adjust its position and check if the asset becomes visible.
- Make sure the frame or group is within the canvas boundaries.
7. Zoom Level and Canvas Visibility
Check if you’re zoomed out too far, causing the assets to appear very small or invisible.
How to check and fix:
- Zoom in (Ctrl/Cmd + “+”) to ensure that the assets are not just too small to see.
8. Check for Hidden Layers in Shared Libraries
If you’re using shared libraries or components, there might be layers or objects that are hidden in the library but visible in the instance.
How to check and fix:
- Make sure the assets you are working with aren’t in a hidden library or hidden within the component.
Summary of Steps:
- Check opacity and fill settings.
- Ensure Clip Content is disabled or adjust the frame size.
- Ensure Blend Mode is set to Normal.
- Confirm that layers are visible and not hidden in the Layers panel.
- Check the zoom level and frame positioning.
If none of these work, there could be a bug, and restarting Figma might help. Let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance!
