Figma very slow and crashes

Hi, I’m working on Figma and it’s prolonged and unusual… It opens very slowly and takes a full 2-3 long minutes to go between PAGES or crashes.
There is no change in the way I work. Deletes images and components or things that may be heavy… Just unusually slow.
What to do? Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Shaked_Mark1,

I’ve been experiencing the exact same issue. Right after the latest big update my production speed decreased dramatically. Nothing seems to fix it so far.

The things I tried to fix it myself:

• Compressed all heavy images in Figma file
• Cleared my Figma cache
• Re-installed the Figma app two times
• Split design files in smaller fragments
• Followed these instruction
• Reset NVRAM of my MacBook

Does anyone have a solution?

FIXED on my side!

So I just got adviced switching my second display from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080 resolution. This immediately seemed to speed up everything.

My assumption is that during the latest update rendering to 4K screens is altered, thus slowing image-heavy files (which almost every of our designs is).

The downside is that my entire UI is now enormous and i can’t fully utilise my big screen. Hopefully this will help others. Have a great day!

Hey @Shaked_Mark1, sorry to hear you’re having issues!

Are you on a Mac, and if so, which macOS are you using?

Is this happening both in browser and using the desktop app? Is it also happening with a specific file or all files? Have you tried any of the suggestions from @Sven_Meijer yet to see if it helps?

I’m going to try this out!

by changing the resolution the whole OS will look like it’s set to ‘elderly’ settings regarding to UI size/proportions?

@Sven_Meijer it worked for me! Finally I’m able to have an uninterrupted workflow.

Maybe I’ve a solution for this problem you mentioned:

Instead of downscaling the resolution to 1920 x 1080, use your preferred size but the “lower resolution” version. see below.
