Figma Community License Questions

Hello,

I work for a software development agency and we would like to share our design system as a Figma Community file, so that Figma Users can freely use our system for their personal and client projects.

However, we don’t want people to be able to re-sell this design system (similar to how you can download a WordPress theme and use it for personal or commercial use, but you can’t open source or sell sublicenses to that theme). Are there any plans to allow for a different license type for Figma community files, aside from the current CC BY license?

Also, are there any plans to allow community file authors to ‘push’ component updates to anyone who has an older copy of that Figma community file? We plan on updating the Community file frequently, and we don’t want users to have to create new copies of the file each time we push an update in order to access the new components.

Thank you!

You can choose any other license you want by stating it in some obvious place. Including a notification in the file itself would be a good idea: Figma Community License: Explanation & Opinion - #2 by Josh

Regarding the updates, I don’t know if there are any plans for this, but you can get updates if you are using a library in the following way:

  1. Create a new duplicate of the library and publish it
  2. Go through each file where the old library is used and use swap library feature to switch it to the new copy

Thanks, @Gleb! I saw that post by @Josh, and he mentioned that you can add a license “in addition to” the CC BY license not “in place of”? In that post, it seemed like someone wanted to make their license more open (MIT license) instead of being more restrictive?
