Deleting directly on the layers panel doesn't work

I tried everything you suggested but it’s still not working.

I’m encountering a problem lately wherein I cannot edit in the layers panel. I have to directly click the asset for me to edit it. Using Keyboard shortcuts also sometimes doesn’t work. Copy paste works on the 1st frame and the 2nd frame within the 1st but when I try to copy paste the actual assets in the Layers panel it’s not working.Deleting by backspace key doesn’t work anymore. Even delete key

I use the chrome browser.
I disabled all Chrome extensions, clear all data including caches, browsing history & cookies, restarted Chrome, restarted the computer but nothing worked.

I also tried editing with another chrome account and still the same problem. I used microsoft edge and it worked fine there!

When I used the Figma app it’s working fine too but I prefer the chrome version.

I also submitted a ticket

I am also getting this issue since roughly three days in Chrome (only in Chrome).

What exactly is happening?
I can use the Layer Panel normally, navigate through layers, and edit them.
But as soon as I try to press the backspace key on a selected layer in the list, it won’t be removed. Nothing happens.
When I click the same layer in the canvas and press backspace, it is removed.
What I also noticed - when I am in the panel and freshly create a new group for the layer I am on, I can remove it with backspace as long as it is the first action after creating the group.
As soon as I deselect and reselect the group, it is not working anymore.

System

  • Chrome Version 124.0.6367.61 (Official Build) (arm64)
  • MacOS Sonoma 14.2
  • Macbook Air M2, 20222

Things I tried

  • Clear cache etc. in Chrome - still happening
  • Restart computer (even that doesn’t really make sense to me) - still happening
  • Incognito Mode in Chrome (without extensions) - still happening

- Different Browser - working, but not optimal

Just to add one weird fix for everyone having this problem.
When I go into full screenmode in Chrome - it is suddenly working.
I can reproduce this consistently.
Not working in regular window mode, working in fullscreen mode.

Please see my answer below. Not a perfect fix, but it seems to work.

Following. The exact same issue is happening for me, started just a few days ago, very frustrating.

Hey all - since this has been hard to replicate on our end, I’d like to get some clarification:

Can you all confirm this is only happening on the web version of Figma, or if it is also happening on the desktop app? This would be key in trying to isolate.

If you’re on the desktop app and seeing this, could you please send a copy of the “debug info” you can grab by going to help > save debug info.

If it’s just on Chrome, please capture a console log from the Developer tools as shown in Use Chrome Developer Tools if you mainly use the browser.

Hello,

It does work on the app and other web browsers like microsoft edge except Chrome. I used different chrome accounts and it’s still encountering the same problem. It is solely an issue for Chrome. Take note that I have already rcleared all cache and cookies and everything I reset everything already

Hi everyone! For some users, the issue has been fixed by upgrading to the newest version on Chrome.

Can you try upgrading to the newest version and check if the same issue occurs? (The newest is Version 124.0.6367.93 at the moment).
Here is an article how to Update Google Chrome - Computer - Google Chrome Help.
