Can't type!

Hello. I’m working on a project for school and for some reason I can’t type or change a word in Figma. Can somebody please help me out! I really need this for school! Thank you!!!

If you wish to make changes to the text content of a text layer you have created, you can do so in one of the following ways:

  • With the layer already selected: press the Enter / Return key to edit its contents.
  • Without the layer selected: double-click on the layer in the canvas.

Please keep in mind that in order to edit a text layer, you must have the text layer’s font installed and accessible. You can find more information here: Add a font to Figma design

If the above methods do not work, please try the following:

  • Browser: Force-quit and open Figma in a new browser window.
  • Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it.

Also, kindly confirm if this issue is occurring on the desktop app, web browser, or both. Have you experienced a similar issue in other applications (e.g., MS Word)?

I’m having the same issue. Using the desktop snap package. I’ve tried restarting the application. Even if I edit text within the textarea below the text options it doesn’t change.

Opening the file through the online editor works.

Hi there, If it works on the browser version but not in the desktop app, could you please try clearing the cache of your desktop app?

Thanks for the advice! I can’t figure out how to clear the cache however, I’m only seeing instructions for mac or windows. I’m using the snap package on linux. There is no option in my help menu for troubleshooting.

As indicated on our downloads page, the Figma desktop app is officially available for macOS and Windows, but unfortunately not for Linux at this moment.

Regarding difficulties editing text in the Figma desktop app, it could be related to a network issue or security configuration. To troubleshoot, we recommend trying the following steps:

Where possible, we would recommend trying to see if the same issue occurs if you try:

  • Use a different network, like a mobile hotspot
  • Temporarily disable any VPN, Proxy, or Firewall connections
