All my files have disappeared

Hi,
All my files have disappeared from my account since Figma started making changes.
Has this happened to anyone else?
How can I recover them?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out and our apology for the confusion. If you didn’t permanently delete files, they should be in your account. There’re some possibilities.

In “Drafts to move”

We’re in the process of moving Drafts into teams on the Starter and Professional plans. Moving forward, each team now has its own Drafts space.

Your draft files might be currently in a temporary space called Drafts to move, where you’ll be prompted to transfer them into Drafts on one of your teams. These files will stay private to you and anyone you share them with, no matter which team you move them to.

When you navigate to Drafts to move, you’ll be prompted to move files into a Drafts space within the team of your choosing. Once all files have been moved out of Drafts to move, the section will disappear from your sidebar.

  1. From the file browser, click Drafts to move in the left sidebar.
  2. Hover over each file you’d like to move and click Move.
  3. Select a team to move the draft into, then click Move.

In “Trash”

If you no longer need a file, and want to remove it for all collaborators and team members, you can move it file to the Trash. This will remove it from its current location to a dedicated Trash section.

You can access the Trash section from the sidebar of the file browser. From here, you can choose to permanently delete the file, or restore the file if you have changed your mind.

Figma will store files in the trash until you, or another team member with access to those files, permanently deletes them.

If the file still exists in trash, you may be able to restore it. Restoring a file moves the file from trash back to its original project, and restores access for anyone who had permissions on the file, at the time it moved to trash.

The file will retain any permissions, comments, version history, and library connections of the original file.

To restore a file:

  1. From the file browser, click Trash and locate the file you want to restore.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Restore.

Please know that there are a few requirements you must meet to be able to restore a file:

  • You must have can edit access to the original file, and the project the file lives in. You don’t need to be the file owner.
  • The original project and team must still exist. This must be the exact same project, not a project with the same name.
  • If you are on the free Starter plan, you must have at least one file remaining. If you have reached the three file limit and try to restore a file to that project, your team will be locked. You’ll need to upgrade the team, or move files to the drafts, to access your files again.

I hope it clarifies the things but please let us know the issue still persists.

Thanks!

Hi, thank you for your response.
I don’t even have the “Drafts to move” option  My files used to be in drafts, and there were quite a few, but now they’ve just disappeared. Others moved automatically to another account with which I shared the file, and I’ve lost editing rights. Something is definitely wrong with Figma at the moment…

Hi there,

Sorry for the delayed response! In that case, I need to ask you to reach out to our support team. Could you reach out directly to the support team with a copy of your file from your browser history if possible: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?

Please make sure you use the email associated with your Figma account.

I hope the support team will be able to solve this issue!

Thanks for your patience.
