Question

Why is there still no dedicated Figma design app for iPad, despite the growing demand and the iPad's evolution into a powerful design tool?

With the increasing popularity of iPads among creative professionals and the device's capabilities now rivaling many laptops — especially with Apple Pencil support and desktop-class processors — it’s surprising that a leading design platform like Figma hasn't released a fully functional iPad app.

Is this a matter of strategic prioritization, where Figma believes the current user base doesn’t demand it strongly enough to justify development resources? Or is it due to technical limitations, perhaps stemming from the complexities of maintaining feature parity with the desktop/web version on iPadOS?

Alternatively, is Figma's vision more aligned with a cloud-first, desktop-class browser experience, where portability across devices takes a backseat to collaborative infrastructure? If so, does this approach overlook the rising trend of mobile-first or tablet-based design workflows?

It would be insightful to understand if Figma simply hasn't seen enough ROI or user behavior validation to greenlight this move — or if it’s something they are actively working on but facing internal or external roadblocks. Adobe has made strides in this area with apps like Adobe Fresco and Illustrator on iPad — is Figma not interested in competing directly on that front, or are they intentionally waiting for a tipping point?

In short, is the absence of a native Figma iPad app a matter of lack of interest, inability, or deliberate design strategy?

I was very confused about the release of brush tools without iPad support. Did Figma identify that there was a significant demographic of users who want to paint in Figma and have a Wacom tablet or something?

Figma remains the main holdout in my workflow. Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher have all had fully featured iPad apps for years. Da Vinci Resolve has a pretty robust app for the iPad. And between Nomad Sculpt, Shapr and Polycam I can even do 3D things on the iPad that I can’t do on the desktop. Meanwhile Figma, not only has no dedicated app, Figma in the browser doesn’t even work correctly on iPad.

I agree with this, I now use my iPad Pro M5 as the main device, everything in my workflow works apart from Figma. I am not a UXUI designer, but runs a digital agency and use Figma Slides for decks and reviewing designers work. Whilst Figma Slides work on Safari, but it lacks spell check which is available on the MacOS app. Since iPad now runs the same chip as Macs, it really doesn’t make sense to limit the iPad app to pure content consumption. Or at least allow users to chose a lite Figma iPad app for older iPad users and M2 chips+ iPad Pros to run full Figma app…
