Question

Why can I only change the height of a shape in one direction with Figma Motion?

I’m working on motion graphics for a sequence of multiple hints in a video game I work on. I explain the issue in detail in this video:

It’s incredibly tedious to have to change the position of the shape and then do the distance math to adjust its height because it’s unwilling to simply grow in a different direction. It really feels like I should just be able to grab the top layer bound and expand the height of the shape upward without all of this tedious crap.

Hi @jank, thanks for your honest feedback!

I completely understand the frustration here. Quick context: Motion currently resizes shapes from the top-left corner, so growing height in just one direction does require that position math. This is a known limitation, not something specific to your file.

Since this is a common pain point, I'm moving this over to a feature request, so we can track the demand in the Community for our Motion team.
