I’d like to be able to choose a thumbnail (either a frame from the video, or upload a thumbnail) for an object that has Video fill. Currently Figma uses the first frame of the video as the thumbnail, and if that video starts all black, then the thumbnail is just black. It will show fine in prototype view or mirror once the video starts playing, but when you are editing it would be helpful to see a frame of the actual video so you can adjust properties of elements (e.g. colors, opacities, gradients) and see what they’ll look like composited with video.

+1 really need this

Why isn’t this a thing still? It’s hard to design around a black rectangle.

We are running into this every day, making slide decks with black screens is just not nice :’) Please Figma! Align the Video with the GIF behavior and let us choose a thumbnail!!!

+1 for this feature, or +5 if you count my whole team!
Please address this.

I received an answer from Figma Product Support, it is a known issue and they working on it.

Thank you for your patience.
Our engineering team has conducted a comprehensive investigation and confirmed that the problem you're facing is indeed related to a known issue. I am very sorry to let you know that at this time, unfortunately, we do not have an estimated timeline for a resolution.

I understand that this is not an ideal solution, but please know that we are actively working on improving our platform and addressing issues like this. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we strive to provide a better experience for our users.

As this issue is still under investigation, and since we are unable to keep tickets with customers open for a long period of time, I'm going to mark this ticket as closed while we wait for more information, but note this will not affect your ticket's status on the bug report. The bug report will continue to live internally and the engineers will troubleshoot further. If you have any follow-up questions or want to check on progress, just reply here and the conversation will re-open so we can give you a hand.

You want to reduce the image in the video, I think you should use Wink application, it optimizes this very well.

What do you mean @Thanasis Markomichalis by ‘reducing’ the image? If I use a video which starts with a fade to black I don’t want it to start with a different image.

+15 for our whole team. As many have said, this is keeping us from moving from Keynote to Figma.
