Variables: Color alias with alpha / opacity (rgba ideally)

hey there!

variables seems to be super nice but what i am missing is that if i make a colour alias to a specific collection - i can’t set the opacity separately (e.g. colour 50 with 20% opacity)

So basically i want the colouyr to be from another collection and i want to set the alpha seperatly (controlled as rgba - since i dont need it as opacity)

Example how we can fix this in token studio:

So what i want is that i can set blue/5 and then the opacity (which i dont want to capture in another colour variable)

Now its only possible if i break the link with gray/75 - and then i loose the reference to that colour

+1 I’m having a hard time believing this has not been implemented yet. It’s pretty tedious to work on building smart design systems without such features

Yes this would be sooooooo helpfull reducing management in Color Tokens

+1 I’m baffled why this hasn’t been implemented yet.

Once you start using Figma professionally you start to notice how much of a Beta Product they offer and what a money grab they are, starting with a limitation of 4 modes and going on to missing basic features. Get it together Figma, you are asking for a lot of money lately, we deserve a good product!

+1 Desperately need this. I need to create a lot of opacity variants for my design systems, and this would definitely speed things up, esecially in the early phases where I’m trying to rapidy iterate on colors and tweak / adjust them. Eech time I make an iteration, I need to break the alias, copy the color code, and paste it into several other variables. Multiple iterations x multiple variables to copy x multiple modes = a huge pain. On a single project, it wouldn’t be an exageration to say I needed to break and re-assign variables thousands of times. It feels like feature request is a meme at this point. Other than a few minor updates, variables have remained largely untouched since launch, which is sad.

Bumping this up… this is the bane of design systems in Figma
