Variable change listener interaction

Hello!

As mentioned earlier in posts such as Prototype - Interactions - Event listener & ElseIF conditional, it would be really useful to have interactions trigger from variable changes.

Right now, you can already accomplish these by combining conditional statements with the “After delay” interaction, but it is extremely tedious to maintain and demands a lot of janky component work (see example of implementation in video).

Simply having “Listen for change in variable X” as an interaction would be a really powerful tool to create reusable components for advanced prototypes.

Hello y-toku

I hope you realize Michael’s request is a GAMECHANGER!

It would completely supercharge prototyping in Figma!

The variables and conditional logic would be so much more useful if Figma had an event listener for variable changes. We currently use really tedious and clunky workarounds, like the on-delay trigger, which are both time-consuming and unreliable. I used to really hate using Axure but lately I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic for their prototyping features.

This would be huge for our workflow and make building and maintaining our more complex prototypes a breeze. So much has been unlocked by variable but it also at times feels frustratingly rudimentary.
