User Preference to include or exclude object selection in undo

+1 to all comments here. Hoping Figma sees all this and finally works on a fix. Having to undo each click after an actual change is absolutely awful.

When I make a design change, I want to click off the objects to see it without the bounding box highlights, to get a feel for how it looks. I hate having to undo over and over just to take one step back.

In response to the argument for keeping extra clicks in undo steps - Yes, double clicking into multiple nested grouped layers is also annoying, and losing your spot in the nested layers can be frustrating. HOWEVER - get around all the double-clicking and opening layer after layer by cmd / ctrl clicking the object/layer you want to select. This selects the object you want in one click. Boom.

How is this not a user preference option at the very least?! Empty clicks are not part of the history!!!

This is one of the best default features in figma – feel free to add a user preference toggle but please DO NOT DROP SUPPORT FOR THIS!!!!

It’s so annoying, because I click and select so much that I can’t go back to actual changes I made. It’s so frustrating...

How has this not been addressed yet? Just make it optional. It’s my #1 pain point with Figma. My main gripe isn’t even how annoying it is to have to do 28 Ctrl+Zs to undo 3 things, but the fact that the undo history gets full with just selections so if I want to go back  further than a handful of changes it’s not even possible.

Why? Genuinely curious. Am I using Figma all wrong?

Replied to previously, but can't stress this enough. The most annoying “feature” ever.

Just add an “Exclude/include selection in undo history” toggle!

I’ve been using Figma for a couple of weeks because my workplace requires it and my experience with it so far has been a nightmare solely because of how Figma treats selections and history.

A selection does NOT change anything in the document, therefore, object selection should not be part of the undo history. At least not by default.

I’m not asking for Figma to remove it, I’m just asking for it do be an option so we can opt out of this madness.
