Token-based authentication and MCP

We need to connect to the Figma MCP from Cursor. The current integration uses OAuth; we would prefer to authenticate with Access Token

  • Is there an official or recommended MCP solution from Figma that supports token-based authentication?

Hi @Abdüssamed Tezer 👋 Thanks for reaching out. This is a valid request and one that has come up before — Support for PAT (Personal Access Token) based auth in Figma remote MCP

Right now, Figma supports OAuth authentication only for the Figma Remote MCP Server. We don't support Personal Access Tokens or plan tokens for MCP at this time. I do not have an official or recommended MCP solution outside of the OAuth flow. Currently, I do not have an additional roadmap or timeline to share.

For Cursor, you'll need to go through the standard OAuth flow: developers.figma.com/docs/figma-mcp-server/remote-server-installation

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. – Jaycee

@Jaycee Lewis This is unsatisfying since months. Are there any reasons for this not being even planned? There are several requests here and on the web for this way of authentication.

That way is essential for agentic workflows in the cloud. E.g. having GitHub Copilot (in the cloud, not locally) working on a ticket, that has a figma file linked to it for more context. The cloud agent won’t be able to access this file, because there is no way of authenticating it. The only way to authenticate the offical figma MCP would be doing it locally on my developer machine as a human being.

From my point of view, this should get a very high priority on your roadmaps to keep up in the agentic race. Right now, figma is falling behind and there are already competitors, that are capable of supporting such ways.

I’m also curious about this. Is there a simple way to connect Figma MCP with Cursor using an access token instead of OAuth? An official Figma-supported option for token-based authentication, would be really useful.
