Swap variables in library

Please please please make swapping variables work with swapping libraries. I now have days of extra work to do because this doesn’t work.

This was a surprising omission that caused a significant of manual work on a recent project. It was not apparent that variables had not swapped out until a significant amount of issues were found later.

I can't stress enough how frustrating it is to rely on plugins for such a simple task. The native library swap process is completely outdated and lacks user-centered features. How are we supposed to swap variables if they're not even accessible in the swap library panel? Why can't we manually reassign missing components? And wouldn't it be great if we could directly identify and fix missing styles right from the swap library panel?
 

Our team recently had to switch to a new library and relied on a plugin to make the transition. The process was far from smooth and took forever.

Adding a vote for this feature. It’s a huge painpoint.

Hi ​@djv, hope you’re well. I just wanted to check if there has been any progress on this topic, it’s still a major issue in our workflow and relying on 3rd party plugins is not ideal. I know there is an upcoming event to talk about design systems, I am hoping this may be something that’s covered in the opening talk. It does feel like variables have fell off the face of the earth in terms of Figma’s priorities, even though it’s an integral part of most teams workflows to reduce errors and bring our designs closer to code. Any updates would be great, thank-you.

Hi ​@Adam_Gordon - stepping in for Denise here. At the moment, there isn’t an update that we can provide, but we do understand that there are some scenarios a plugin may not be able to cover.

Hi ​@ksn, do you know a specific release date for the swap library support that was spoken about at Schema? Would be useful to understand when in November it’s roughly going to be released!
