Support for WebP image format - Export section - Feature Request

Web performance is no longer optional, it’s a core part of the user experience. Yet today, 2026, exporting assets from Figma still requires external tools or manual workflows when teams want to use modern formats like WebP.

Adding WebP as a native export option in the export panel would solve a very real and widespread problem:

  • Smaller file sizes without sacrificing quality
  • Faster load times for websites and apps
  • Better alignment with modern frontend standards and performance budgets
  • Reduced reliance on third-party tools or batch conversion scripts (love your plugins folks, but let’s be realistic, it should be a core feature)

Right now, the gap between design and production increases unnecessarily because designers can’t export assets in the formats the modern world actually uses. This creates friction, slows down workflows, and introduces inconsistencies (e.i. WordPress natively supports it now).

Figma has always been about closing the gap between design and development. Supporting WebP export would be a natural and impactful step in that direction.

Even a simple implementation (like PNG/JPG parity with a quality slider) would already bring massive value to teams working on performance-sensitive products.

Export options panel could include a compression option.
The WebP option — Quick fix proposal

To me, this isn’t a niche need, it’s becoming the default for modern web delivery.

So, let’s make Figma outputs production-ready by default! 🥹🙏🏻

PS. yes, this is another request for WebP, like a monthly or yearly reminder that we need one.

Fully agree with this.

Today (and since few years ago), WebP is no longer "nice to have" - It's a standard. Yet, we still rely on external tools or plugins, which breaks workflow and adds avoidable steps.
