Support for relative size units (vw, vh &c)?

Is there a plan for Figma to support relative font size units, such as vw, vh, vmin, vmax, etc.? The design system I’m working at is trying to add fluid font size calculations to bigger title sizes, and Figma’s native support for these units would be extremely helpful.

I’m also working separately on a plugin that converts inputed relative units to px values, but it seems Figma’s API won’t support background-running plugins that observes text layer changes. Any thoughts on making the plugin more useful?

Hey All, thanks for the feedback and sorry for the lack of acknowledgement here!

We’ll pass this thread onto our team for future consideration.

It’s not for Figma but we have a JS script that does this very thing, typesetting based on container width:

textblock.io

And we’re currently working on a release candidate that works properly in React.

This would elevate the usefulness of figma to the next level. As others have said it is added pain when handing over to developers to explain what these units are and how to use them.

The growing support for container units also makes this easier to support https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/CSS_containment/Container_queries#container_query_length_units

Wow this topic is 4 years old! I was just searching what others were saying as my frustration with the latest Config conference didn’t have this update. I was playing around with the Gris and wanted to set 1fr and bupkis. Relative units please!!!
