Stop automatically adding FigmaAgent to Login Items

I don’t use Figma all the time, I don’t want it to run anything on startup.
It’s frustrating to manually remove Figma from Login Items, since it automatically adds itself there again.

It would be nice to have at least an option to disable it in settings, or even better - remove that functionality at all, since it’s not user friendly. I want control over what and when the apps do at my workstation.

P.S. If it’s needed for updates check - I’m more than okay to update on app start

    Hey @Josh47, sorry for the frustration!
     

    The FigmaAgent starts itself for font access & to allow you access to any Figma links without having to log in. If you don’t need either of those, you can force quit Activity Monitor, remove System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
    Then, delete ~/Library/Application Support/Figma/FigmaAgent.app & /Applications/Figma.app/Contents/Library/FigmaAgent.app


    If you’re still getting the FigmaAgent on restart then you might have a corrupt .plist file. To remove this, try running a Spotlight search and delete system preferences plist from User library > Preferences > com.apple.systempreferences.plist


    The file path should look like this:
    /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

    You might also want to delete the login plist if you have it
    /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist


    Alternatively, you can click on Go in your systems toolbar > Go to folder > and type in the path name (keep in mind Username should be replaced with your own). Then, restart your computer. These files will come back as new (without any corruption) and you should be able to completely remove the FigmaAgent service from login items without any issues. 

    Please note that Figma will automatically reinstall the login item when you upgrade the Figma desktop app. The only existing, temporary solution would be to uninstall the desktop app and use the web browser.

    Our team already has this logged as a feature request internally, but to be transparent, there are no immediate plans on the roadmap to implement.

    What an awful decision and still no response or option to opt-out after 2 years?

    I have uninstalled Figma from my desktop and will certainly be bringing this up in every personal and professional discussion going forward.

        why figma team not give a option to stop figma agent in figma desktop itself ?
        like when close the figma desktop app the figma agent also close in sametime.

         

        maybe figma is using for monitor user datas ?

        why i am asking this because lot of users already complaint about this still not taken any action, it looks suspisious and from figma team no replay so long of years.

         

        i am planning to uninstall figma and going to switch to someother softwares.

          I don’t understand why this is still an issue and why Figma doesn’t care about so many people complaining about this for years already.

          It is pretty clear: a lot of users don’t want this. So at least make an option to disable it!

          I personally don’t want any app adding stuff (which I don’t even need) to login items which makes my system slower and potentially less stable! Stop doing that!

            So incredibly annoying and oversteping what is expected. When I install / update your app, it doesn’t mean you can do whatever u want. Have little respect to your paying users and organizations. Is that so much to ask??

              Another pi**ed off developer here trying to figure out why after I said NO to making FigmaAgent a login item, I re-opened the app and the app decided to add it back ANYWAYS. 

               

              No means no Figma. So fix it, and stop slowing down my machine with your cr*p software.

               

              PS. Make a real native app, not some chromium embedded browser posing as a native app that won’t accept any shortcuts and messes with my workflow.

               

              If I could use Sketch App, I would every day, Figma lags so much I might as well be using Photoshop for web layouts.

                Temporary Work Around

                Copied from stack overflow. All credits to orginal author marcaux

                removing FigmaAgent.app
                • rm -fr ~/Library/Application\ Support/Figma/FigmaAgent.app
                creating a dummy file
                • touch ~/Library/Application\ Support/Figma/FigmaAgent.app
                make the file undeletable
                • sudo chflags -R schg ~/Library/Application\ Support/Figma/FigmaAgent.app

                Now Figma will not be able to override that file when it wants to update it.

                Also the login item does not get created for me again after removal at this point.

                 

                I just tried this last week, and although it works… the browser no longer opens links in my desktop app anymore. It says “font installer” not found and to connect figma desktop app. When you try to connect, it never connects. This doesn’t work.

                This topic has been open for two years???  One check box in the settings could not possibly be that difficult to implement

                  Yes, because Figma automatically reinstalls the login item when you upgrade Figma. The only existing workaround would be to uninstall the desktop app and use the web browser.

                  We changed the topic to Stop automatically adding FigmaAgent to Login Items, and our team already has this logged as a feature request internally, so we recommend keeping an eye on our Release Notes where we’ll post all major updates.

                  This was 2 years ago and Figma Agent still adds itself to startup everytime I launch it.
