Problem Statement
As a designer who frequently presents work to clients, I need a way to present specific sections of my design file without duplicating frames across pages or creating complex prototype flows. Currently, there's no streamlined way to selectively show frames from the same page during presentations.
Current Limitations
- Presentation View: Works only for all frames on a page or manually selected frames, but doesn't allow for predefined sections
- Duplicate Pages: Creates maintenance overhead when designs change, requiring updates in multiple places
- Prototype Flows: Overly complex for simple presentation needs
- FigJam Boards: Requires moving content to a different environment
- Dev Mode: Primarily for development handoff, not optimized for client presentations
Proposed Solution
A Section-Based Presentation Mode that would allow designers to:
- Define "presentation sections" within a single page
- Tag or group frames as belonging to specific presentation sections
- Choose which section(s) to present when entering presentation mode
- Toggle between full-page view and section-specific views
Use Cases
- Client Presentations: Show only the relevant screens for a specific meeting
- Design Reviews: Focus on particular aspects of a design without distraction
- Work in Progress: Hide incomplete sections while presenting finished components
- Stakeholder Approvals: Organize approval flows by section rather than duplicating content
Benefits
- Reduced Duplication: Eliminate the need to maintain duplicate frames across pages
- Improved Workflow: Streamline the presentation process for client meetings
- Better Organization: Maintain logical section groupings within a single workspace
- Version Control: Ensure presented designs are always up-to-date with the working file
Technical Considerations
This could potentially be implemented through:
- A new "Sections" panel in the Figma interface
- Frame tagging or metadata for section assignment
- Enhanced presentation controls that filter by section
Priority
This feature would significantly improve the workflow for designers who regularly present to clients and stakeholders, saving time and reducing file complexity.r
