REST API: provide a duplication option

Request:
Provide an option to easily duplicate or backup files via an API

 

Reasoning:
The REST API comes with a lot of options, but it doesn’t allow you to copy files, projects or teams.
There’s an option to download files, but not as uploadable content (i.e. as .FIG), nor is there any option to duplicate them, if they are e.g. used as a template for another team.

Possible (i.e. my) use case:
I work in an enterprise. We have a base design system with tokens that we hand out to external agencies and do some automatic checks via different APIs. I would like to automate the duplication process of these files completely. However there’s no good option to do this at the current moment.

    Pat, that’s a great idea. I just had a use case for this today and was hoping for a method of automatic template file duplication, but sadly there is no option yet.

    I work at an agency where we need to duplicate a “template” consisting of our style guide and some other elements every time we gain a new client, and while we currently duplicate it manually, we should just be able to duplicate via API and make our workflow more efficient.

    Figma team, please add support for this. It would make life easier :)

      Same Problem here

      Would be great if Figma added more options in Make.com for those of us that don’t code

      I own a carousel agency

      We want to duplicate templates every time and document them in notion 

      but we can’t automate it - would be great to have that option, you know

      Perhaps Figma can do what video ask is doing and maybe adding those for paid users or something

      need this so much Lol

        Yah, Figma Team- This would be a must having fully manageable entities via API - not only read. That would be great for the agentic era!

          This would be extremely helpful for our workflows as well. We would love to see this implemented. We are working in AI Native coding and need a way to duplicate a figma file with our design system and cover page templates.

            Hi. We're currently running into this same problem. We need to set up automatic copying of Figma files via the API, but this feature isn't currently available, which is really hindering our workflow.

            Has anyone found a workaround?

            Figma team - are there any plans to implement this feature, at least in paid subscriptions?
