Request for Linux Support for MCP or a Standalone MCP Server

Hi Figma team,

I'm reaching out with a request on behalf of several developers on our team who use Linux as their primary development environment.

Currently, the MCP (Multi-Context Preview) feature is locked behind the Figma desktop app, which is only available for macOS and Windows. This poses a challenge for Linux developers who are unable to access or use MCP due to the lack of a supported desktop app.

We’d love to see one of the following:

  1. A Linux version of the Figma desktop app to unlock parity across development environments.

  2. An alternative way to run an MCP server without the desktop app, such as a standalone CLI or server binary that can be installed independently.

This would greatly improve the development experience and make Figma’s workflow more accessible to cross-platform teams.

Thanks for considering this request!

Hey all! I just wanted to stop in with some updates. If you haven’t yet, check on this blog: https://www.figma.com/blog/design-context-everywhere-you-build/

We’ve brought remote access to the Figma MCP server. In consideration of Linux setups, I don’t know if this will completely clear up any pain points you have, but this may be helpful. Just note that this is still in open beta.

Let me know if I missed the mark, and what other feedback you have that I can ask/escalate internally.

Thank you!
