Request for Essential Figma Shortcuts: "Hug content", "Fill container" and "Fixed width"

Hey Figma Community!

I wanted to suggest adding keyboard shortcuts for “Hug content”, “Fill container” and “Fixed width”.

With the new design, these options are now in a dropdown, and having shortcuts would save so much time—potentially making our workflow 30% faster!

Imagine using these shortcuts on Figma Creator Micro or other external keyboards—how cool would that be? If you agree, please like this post so Figma can see the demand and implement this feature.

Thanks for your support!

People have been eagerly waiting for this shortcut for years. Happy to see we have menu options now, but browser users cannot set custom shortcuts from macOS keyboard settings.

Considering how essential auto layout has become, I think it’s time to introduce default shortcut for at least hug/fill width!

NOTE: if you want to change from hug/fill to fixed width, you can do this with nudging width/height back and forth quickly: first CMD+LEFT (subtracts 1px from width/height and changes it to fixed) and then CMD+RIGHT immediately after (add 1px back).

@Ulya Good news, it’s now a native Figma command that you can assign a shortcut too. I thought of you.

How do you assign a shortcut, because Figma itself did not give these functions a some key combinations for us to trigger them via a Mouse or a third party app?

It’s not the same thing, but I made this plugin to enable more keyboard control, which is kind of like opening up a whole bunch more shortcuts

Fill and hug width/height short codes are included

Keyboard shortcuts are crucial for speed and efficiency, but Figma offers a pretty limited set and you can't customize them.

Lazer proposes a decent workaround inspired by command line interfaces. It includes a number of common adjustments, each with a short code (see below). When you bring up the Actions input with command + K or command + / and then type a shortcode (eg. w.h), the fuzzy search will be ready to select that action.
