Private Comments on Prototypes and Design Files

Totally get where you're coming from we're dealing with something similar. Figma is great, but the lack of layered comment permissions can be a big drawback, especially when you're trying to keep internal reviews separate from client feedback.

At our agency, we’ve been experimenting with some workaround systems, but nothing really beats what InVision offers with Private Comments. It’s surprising Figma hasn’t addressed this yet, considering how many teams are now hybrid or fully remote and juggling multiple stakeholders.

Here’s a Detailed Estimating Sheet we use to keep internal notes and client-facing details structured and separate might help someone facing the same challenge.

Has anyone tried building a similar layered feedback flow using FigJam or plugins? Curious if that worked out or made things messier.

Would def love this! I work at a startup as the only designers and my files get HUGE. I definitely need private comments so I don’t overwhelm the team with all my comments..

I think an area here toggling between private and public comments would be a huge sell. 

​@y_toku @figma what’s the status of this request? There are quite a few people talking about this need, despite this thread being hard to find, and it’s a ridiculously easy feature to implement.

Designers need a way to leave private commentary and thoughts to themselves as they design and evaluate their ideas over multiple work sessions. Please let us know when to expect a visibility feature for comments.

DYING for this feature. Our team has to create duplicate files for development and client delivery because Figma lacks the ability to enable private comments or add certain visibility permissions to them. This ends up causing inconsistencies if changes occur and only one file gets updated. It’s headache.

Please add this feature!! We don’t want our clients to see our crazy back and forth :) 

@figma ​@y_toku ​@figma_admin when will you build a comment visibility feature? this is a core feature that’s missing, it’s tiny scope, it’s not fixed with any existing plugin, and in this forum you can see users have been both asking for it for 4 years and choosing not to migrate their entire agencies to figma due to this product oversight.
