From what I understand, currently there is no way to programmatically update the widget to the latest version when users interact with the widget. Users do not know that there is a new version, and the current version they use is old. They can manually right click each widget and see if under Widgets menu, there is Update to latest version option.

It would be great to have updateToLatestVersion() or checkIfLatestVersion() so, the widget can prompt them to update.
