Leaner variable entry

Using shift+click the variable search opens automatically on most fields.

The Gap field in AutoLayout is excluded from this and does not have a variable picker icon but it needs to be selected via dropdown every time.

This is inconsistent and I think it should be also possible to have shift+click open the variable search.

Hi @Mikka_Wild,

Thank you for the feedback!

I understand you've noticed that Shift + click to open the variable picker is not supported on some fields, which feels inconsistent when trying to apply a number variable.

As you mentioned, Shift + click to open the variable picker is not supported on the following fields at the moment:

  • Font size
  • Gap between
  • Layout guide count
  • Width and height
  • Maximum width and height

As an alternative solution, you might want to try pressing [=] instead. I'm on a Mac and can confirm that Shift + [=] opens the variable picker on fields that support number variables, including the Gap between.

For more details, please check the Help Center article below: Apply variables to designs > Apply a number variable

Thanks!

Hi @Junko3,

that’s a neat trick, thank you! I didn’t know that shortcut yet.
Also well documented, maybe in the future there will be a way to unify the entry methods.

Best regards

Mikka
