Layers Panel cuts off in dev mode

I completely understand the frustration this would cause, since the Layers panel should behave the same way in both Design and Dev Mode. I tested this with my own file, but the layers panel seems to be working as expected on my end. To properly try and recreate this issue, a couple quick questions:

• When you scroll horizontally in Dev Mode, does the scrollbar move but the content stays the same, or is there no horizontal scrollbar at all?
• Does this happen in any file, or with only files with a particular layer name length/nesting depth?
• What browser/OS are you on, and roughly how wide is your Dev Mode panel when it happens?

If you can share a quick screen recording or a URL link (with Can view access) to a file where it reproduces the behavior, that'll help our team investigate further.

We are having the same issue at our organization, so I am going to answer your questions directly - hopefully this helps both of us!

• When you scroll horizontally in Dev Mode, does the scrollbar move but the content stays the same, or is there no horizontal scrollbar at all?
  • We do not see a horizontal scrollbar at all, and cannot scroll. We can expand the window a certain amount to see a little more, but deep nested layers become truncated.
• Does this happen in any file, or with only files with a particular layer name length/nesting depth?
  • Happens with all files, regardless of depth of layer names/nesting
• What browser/OS are you on, and roughly how wide is your Dev Mode panel when it happens?
  • Happens to us on Mac and Windows, native version or browser version. Seems to be a problem regardless.

I tried to add a screen recording to my original post but it wouldn’t allow me.

There are two screenshots I made earlier to show the issue:

The screen recording and screenshots are incredibly helpful. I flagged this directly to the team, and they confirmed that this is currently expected behavior. Right now, Dev Mode has its own implementation of the layers panel. When they added horizontal scrolling for Figma Design’s layers panel, Dev Mode didn't automatically receive the same updates.

Because of that, I’ve updated this topic into a feature request. Please know that this is now on the team’s radar to fix soon.
