Fr/Percent units for more control over auto layout content

Although I find the new autolayout UI extremely convoluted and overdesigned, the ‘hug/fill parent’ feature is great. However, It would be immensely helpful to have more control over how the elements fill the parent.

Currently, the only option is for the elements to fill the remaining space, but oftentimes, I need certain elements to take up a certain proportion.

Example: I need element-1 to take up 2fr (~66%) and the rest to take up 1fr (~33%). It would be a game-changer if we could use ‘fr’ units.

Framer does this beautifully and it’s vital for efficient, adaptive layout workflows:

Where are the other topics that got merged together? Want to keep my eye on those as well.

Hey @Greg_Huntoon1, sorry for the confusion!

Once topics are merged, all Votes and replies will exist under this topic, since it’s the only one that remains open. There’s no real reason or need to monitor the previous topics. They are listed and linked beneath the original topic though, if you want to scroll up! ☝️

Here’s a screenshot of what to look for:

Pointless even posting here. Of all the posts ive made on i dont think one of them has been answered or resolved. This is at 3yrs now. Request to be able to copy/move pages is at 4 years. Billing is still an absolute nightmare where i have to contact support to add VAT number as a business? The list goes on…and each day im using penpot and framer more and more.

Reminds me of Sketch and lessons from “how to squander a great product”

Oh i forgot alignment options on image fills. 3+ years! Crazy

This feature is beyond needed as we also switch to using modes more,+1 for percentages. Another step closer to website parity and proper flex systems.

This feature would help save me SO much more time than FigJam with AI, or most of the other recent updates tbh.

Strong Bump on this! Has been a long waited; no-brainer if you want Figma to mimic CSS / Styling behaviour. The functionality already exists considering autolayout children have awareness of each other but it is very frustrating that you cannot control beyond a 1-1 relationship. It’s surely a quick thing to implement and no idea how Figma team hasn’t done so yet.

Just copy Framer please 🙏 as that is where I need to move to for building / testing components that require it.

In order for Figma to maintain its competitive edge as a prototyping tool and facilitator of collaboration between designers and developers, it is crucial you enhance this particular feature.
This feature would really help design to developer communication and help make truly responsive prototypes.

Many others have shown comparisons that competitors are starting to surpass Figma in terms of essential functionality.
