Question

Folders (multi-select & bugs?)

  • Let us multi-select folders, to more easily re-organize after the new “Folder” implementation. Trying to sort all customers into “A” “B” “C” etc.. folders, and having to drag one-a-time is.. well.. not optimal. (this regards both click and drag + right-click and “move” option)
  • While viewing “all folders” in list-view: Sorting gets refreshed everytime I move out and back in to “All folders”. From alphabetical to “Last modified”. Annoying.
  • After moving x-amount of folders, it stops working. I need to go to “draft” and then back to “all folders” view and then “sort by alphabetical order” to start sorting them again. (bug?)

First thoughts and experience with the new feature. Really glad to see folders introduced to Figma( finally! :) )

Also: It might just be me, but when using the “create” button: Would love for Figma to automatically go into “type-mode”, instead of us having to move our mouse down to the input field and type name of file/folder. And maybe CMD+ENTER to click continue, for when no options are needed to be modified. Would make this workflow way faster and also ensures staying organized. I have way to many design-files that are untitled, cause it forces me to do that extra step by renaming it afterward. (silly, but a micro quality of life thing).

I agree, folders are a welcome addition, but these issues definitely make organizing large projects more tedious than it needs to be. Multi select would be especially useful when sorting a lot of folders. The sorting reset and the issue where moving folders eventually stops working also sound like bugs worth reporting. Hopefully Figma can smooth these out in a future update!

Hey both! Thank you so much for taking the time to post your feedback and follow-up improvements. I’m glad that this change has been positive for you so far 😁 We know that the work isn’t over, and we’re continuing to move on improvements to help ease some of these pain points. I made sure to forward your notes internally for our file management team to keep in mind as we move forward.

Regarding the sort resetting @Vegard_Iversen - do you have an idea around how many movements you make before resets back? Or does it just seem random? Having a range would be super helpful if you have one.

The sorting feature resets anytime you move away from that window/tab. Let’s say you’re in the “All Folders” tab and move to the “Recents” tab; the sorting gets reset as soon as you move back to “All Folders”.

For the “drag and drop” freezing: it happens at random, but approximately every 5-7 drag-and-drops. Sometimes it did not freeze or stop working between changing active tabs, etc., so I was not able to recreate the bug exactly every time.

Got it, thanks @Vegard_Iversen. I’m going to file a bug ticket on my end to see if this can be replicated by our engineering team. When I get an update, I’ll provide further instructions -- I may need to get you connected with our technical quality team to get additional info (logs, some view access, etc.)

Will touch base again -- likely Monday with the weekend quickly approaching 😅

Hey @Vegard_Iversen - heard from engineering that they’re looking into the drag and drop behavior, so I’ll pass on another update on that later, when I hear more.

For the sorting - the engineering team is looking into potential improvements to the default sorting behavior, which would with what you're describing. I don't have a firm timeline yet, but I'll keep you posted if there's any movement.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi @Vegard_Iversen - can you reply with exact steps you’re taking? We’re not able to reproduce the drag and drop issue, but it may be because we’re not following the exact flow you’re doing when you reach the problem. Thank you!

@ksn My steps are as follow:
- I am in “All folders” view
- I sort the list alphabetically
- I drag folders into the destination-folder that is in the “Starred” list on the left sidebar.
- After x amount (i’d say 6, but it feels random), Figma starts to not respond to the drag. AKA the list for “All folders” does not change compared to when it works the list gets shorter because i’m moving the folders into a new folder.
- I need to move out of “all folders” into another tab, and then back to “all folders” again to continue dragging folders into it’s destination that is in the “Starred” section.

Does this make sense?

It does - I’m checking in with engineering again to be sure. Now that I see your steps written out, I believe you’re actually seeing intended behavior, but not getting served an error that alerts you of this. Were/are there any toast messages that appear? It just freezes?

If that is the case, I think this may need a bug report on our end. Want to confirm this with engineering and yourself and move from there.

Thank you again -- I’m going to be offline soon for the rest of this week, so you might hear back from another fellow mod.
