Export Section Name(s) in the Taxonomy

Seems an reasonable / figmantlyprudent thing to implement!

Please let me know if I’m missing something (perhaps an outstanding plugin?)

Hey @ChadL, thanks for reaching out!

I just tried to export a Section and the Section name is already exported as expected.

Test

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding? From your screenshot, is it that you actually want the names for every layer with a section exported as well?

Hiya!

It’s the file name I’m not able to create with my sections and component name driving it.

My component is named Hollywood.
It’s dimensions are 577x360.
It’s nested in a section called City …
Which is itself nested in a section called California …
Which is itself nested in a section called USA …

The functionality I’m looking for is:

  1. Select the USA Section and export a .jpg (of JUST the component at the bottom of the nesting) that has the filename:
  2. “USA_California_City_Hollywood_577x360”

What I’ve only been able to get is a .jpg of the graphic of the section called “USA.jpg”.

(I’ll have 50 components in City eventually)

I know filenaming convention with the forward slashes, which is great.

But it strikes me that the “virtual workspace” that Figma is pioneering would enable the file tree created by moving and grouping on the canvas could be harness for taxonomy and nomenclature solutions without engaging in manually naming each component!

Thanks for clarifying, @ChadL!

Exporting wasn’t built to allow for this capability, but we’ve updated your topic into a feature request. We’ll pass this feedback onto our team for future consideration.

Also, just a friendly FYI - at your current member level, you can edit your own posts after more than 24 hours. You’ll upgrade to new levels to edit sooner, as you continue to interact with the community.

Great, ty!

Kinda like baking cookies that take on properties of the sheet they’re on and the oven they were cooked in.

Virtual!

Gonna look for that edit button to change “Kind” to “Kinda” ty. You’ll know if I find it 🙂

GREAT GREAT program, guys.
