Duplicate a branch

Please please add this - there is no use of copying to another file. it makes using the branches impossible now that file can’t ever be merged with the initial one.. 🙄

I agree, the project team and I really lack the functionality of duplicating branches. It would be nice to see this functionality in the update. 😉

This request has been out there for 2 years now.. I know there are a lot of requests that come up daily but stil.. Can we get any status on it, is this on the roadmap yet?

Hey All, thanks for keeping this feature request alive! 

I understand how this capability would truly improve your workflows. To be upfront, there’s currently no way to duplicate a branch or create a branch from a branch, and I don’t have a roadmap update or timeline to share. 
 

What I can tell you is that the use cases here have been really helpful. Lining up the next project on top of an unmerged branch, preserving frozen initiative branches, and iterating on stakeholder feedback without cluttering the original are all clear examples. I've gathered everything from this topic and shared directly with the team that works on branching.
 

In the meantime, the closest temporary solution is the one @Ashlee_Williams described: create a new branch from main, then copy the contents of your existing branch into it. It isn't ideal, but it keeps your work inside the branching workflow instead of in a separate file.

Please keep sharing your feedback and how this is affecting your current workflows. That's what helps us show the team how much this matters. I'll continue to advocate on your behalf and post here when I have news to share.
