Dark mode for FigJam

C’mon Figma… this unbelievable. FigJam insisting on that super-bright screen is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. Dark mode NOW please!!

Why is this so difficult, Figma? This has been requested for over 5 years.

This is honestly bizarre. I commented about this on Reddit five months ago, and it still doesn’t even seem to be on Figma’s radar. It’s crazy that we still have to rely on workarounds or use other tools for something that is, sorry for the wording, ridiculously simple.

What makes it even harder to understand is that plenty of competitors already have dark mode in their whiteboarding tools — Confluence, Miro, tldraw, Excalidraw, and others. So clearly it’s not something “impossible” to implement. It just seems like it hasn’t been a priority for years, which is pretty disappointing.

+1 for dark mode. Working in bright interfaces for long periods, especially at night, can be tiring on the eyes. A consistent dark mode across Figma, FigJam, the website, and the community forum would create a more comfortable experience and help users stay focused during extended design sessions. It would be great if dark mode could be set as a personal preference and automatically applied across all Figma products and platforms.

FigJam dark mode is on our radar internally, and it's been scoped out a bit. But right now, it's more work than it seems at the surface. Since FigJam's UI/canvas assumed light mode  as a “Whiteboard tool” from the start, there's a real tail of edge cases for the team to sort out to make it possible.

While it's a serious candidate for future consideration, it’s not on the immediate roadmap with a timeline yet. Please know that I’ve logged this with the FigJam team directly given how much this thread has grown. I’ll provide an update here if there is any more concrete news to share.

Disclosure: I build CardBoard, another whiteboard, and just shipped dark mode for it.

What made it hard: the app's colors can flip, but the sticky notes and cards carry meaning. Yellow might mean risk. So those have to stay put. Then everything drawn on top of them (selection outlines, connectors) has to stay readable on both light and dark backgrounds.
