Creating and publishing Figma Make Kits not being available to Guests of an organization.

I work at a UX agency and I am helping my client set up a Figma Make Kit for their product. Because of Figma limitations I cannot (a) create a Figma Make Kit or (b) publish / update a Figma Make Kit. This is very disruptive to my and my client’s workflow because I have to ping them to hit update any time there is a change. This is especially frustrating considering how much troubleshooting I am having to do between the Figma Make Kit and the Figma Make project files I am testing in.

Has anyone else run into this limitation?

Hey @Leander, thanks so much for your honest feedback!

I understand how this must be slowing down your workflow. You've hit on a real current limitation: guests of an organization are not able to create or publish/update Figma Make Kits, even with edit access to the Kit file. This is a known gap, and we know it creates real friction for agency workflows like yours.

A couple of quick questions to make sure we understand the full picture:

  1. Are you a guest on a specific team within the client's org, or have you been added to the org itself in any capacity? The level of access can sometimes affect what's available.
  2. Is your client on an Enterprise plan? Guest permissions for Make Kits have some nuance depending on the plan tier, and knowing this helps us point you in the right direction.

That said, if your client is able to temporarily elevate your access to a full member role (even on a limited basis), that's the most reliable unblock right now. I’ve updated your topic into a feature request and the team is aware of this issue. Allowing guests to have Kit creation and publishing rights is something that could directly support collaborative agency workflows.

Let us know more about your specific use case, and I’ll be sure to pass it onto the team for future consideration!
