Yeah, unfortunately, I doubt they will since Figma believes folders would be a way for free users to avoid upgrading to ‘teams.’ This is why having ‘tags’ would be a good ‘free’ feature AT THE VERY LEAST.

This would be so helpful. Great sketch!

I want to create nested folders to recreate our website architecture. It would be really useful on our large-scale project and would be easier for new colleagues to find visuals as well as stakeholders. As an example, UX writers use Gather Content and all content are located in subfolders that reflect subpages.

For now, we created the website architecture in a FigJam file with link to the different visuals. But sincerely, lack of nested folders is kind of ridiculous for medium to large scale project.

I just moved from XD and this is my biggest issue. Do something about this

Having the ability to add folders in the draft section will really help organize your document and improve productivity, i would be glad if this feature can be added. I believe others would also appreciate the use of this, kindly give this a vote so Figma can consider this feature.

Thanks 😃

Grouping Figma files when the tabs are open would help us easily identify all the files(Figma/FigJam) used for the same project without going to home/ folder page.

I’ve worked for two companies with many projects, and many files within them. We’d like to refine them. E.g., a project for client work was great when clients only required one file, but then we ended up with a client requiring many separate files. Wouldn’t it be nice to put all those files in one folder, at the same level as other client files? Or if you’re working on a large initiative, so you want one separate project but have MANY files, often in groups, you can only organize them now by name. It would be much better to have subprojects or folders - at least one level - that organize within a project. It makes no sense to have multiple teams solely in order to organize, when it’s the same team doing the work.

I’m wondering if Figma will listen to my suggestion to add file folders because I’m totally lost between all the designs I have.

thank you!

Luca_Caprio1

Agree. The ability to tag files would make finding files in orgs that have teams working across channels, in cross-functional squads, significantly easier.

首页-草稿里的文件太多时,不能很好的分类,希望可以新增“文件夹”的功能,方便文件归类整理。

Hi there,
Others in the community have requested something similar here: Create Folders/Categories/Tags for files
I merged your topic with this one so we can gather all the feedback under the same topic.

vote for folders!

abhishekjunghare

Yes, it will really helpful to have a basic categorization system through Folders or Tags for users who do not require the collaborative features of Projects but still need to organize their draft files effectively. Even with just 20+ files, it’s a mess already for me. I can’t even imagine someone with 100s of those.

Prodev_Design_Kopnus

from January 2021 until June 2023 it is still not invented? wow

Did you design this? For a second I thought that Figma added the feature 🙂

Olha_Kirdiaieva

I’m so disappointed, I was really hoping this feature would be included in the new update 😩 Honestly, file organization in Figma is frustrating. Folders would be extremely useful for both personal and commercial needs. Right now, my drafts are just pure mess. Some old projects, random ideas, portfolio drafts, Figma playgrounds, community files… Teams are not suitable for organizing personal files, I can’t create like 5 different teams to store drafts in them, it doesn’t make any sense. In our agency, we use one team and different projects for each client. In this case, folders would also be really useful to separate UX from UI, group different iterations, and separate sub-projects, such as a mobile version of the same application. Voting for this topic and hoping that one day such simple feature would be implemented.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to discuss an idea regarding file and folder organization in Figma. Recently, Figma has been asking for feedback on the ease of finding files and folders, and I’ve been giving it some thought. I believe that implementing a more robust nesting file and folder structure, similar to popular cloud storage services like Google Drive and OneDrive, could greatly benefit the Figma community.

Imagine being able to create a folder inside a project folder, and then create additional folders within that one, allowing for a deeper level of organization. This would provide users with a more intuitive and efficient way to manage their files and projects within Figma.

I understand that the benefits of this idea for Figma’s business may need to be further explored, but I’m interested in sharing this suggestion with Figma’s product managers. Could you please advise me on the best way to get in touch with them and communicate this idea effectively?

Thank you all for your input!

Wow. This thread really shows how Figma Product Owner are deaf and blind. This is a REAL pain not to be able to organize our drafts. Folders or tags… who care. Just allow some way to group things! Personally tags would be great so I can assign multiple tags to a projet. We need to nest. I have 100 drafts… Quite a mess

zachtalogy

It looked like in the keynote that folders exist in the new file browser. Or am I missing something?

Those are projects for paid plans iirc

Matteo_Gonzalez1

Figma team, please hear us !!!
It’s such a basic feature ! Please add it ! We wait since years !

Still waiting? Hm. I am a bit disappointed

Jordan.Vidrine

I voted but just wanted to second this opinion as well.

We have a couple “Projects” that house all of our Figma files. One “Project” is actually figJam and Figma files for hosting team meetings, etc.

I’d like to be able to group all of the templates we use in a folder in the project, and put older previous meeting FigJam files in an “archived” folder.

This would help navigate a lot more!

I fully support this idea! I think it would be useful to add functionality to Figma that would allow users to organize their projects more effectively. Currently, many users struggle with navigating their projects. For example, when working on multiple projects, it can be difficult to keep track of where a specific design element is or where certain information is located. Therefore, I believe it would be beneficial to add a file management system to Figma, so users can easily find the information they need within their projects and efficiently organize their work.
