copy comments from a Figma file to another one while duplicating/copying content/designs.

I use pages to contain versions for very large feature explorations. My “Project” file gets bogged down very quickly because of the scale of my components, so I typically create an “aARCHIVE] Project” file to accompany each project file at this point just to keep the memory usage as low as possible.

Each version contains multiple iterations, concept explorations, prototypes, contextual conversations, decision making points, counter-factuals, etc… The comments associated with deprecated / archived projects are critical to understanding the overall progression of an active project, along with its arc of design direction.

Currently, I manually copy+delete comments from active files and paste them to archive files. It is beyond tedious. Comments often feel like a second-class feature in Figma, and even this requested enhancement would be a huge increase in my QoL as a product designer.

adding a comment here to quantify the urgency of the need to be able to transfer comments between files 🙏

+1 Why wasn’t that already implemented? It’s over 2 years! It’s such an essential feature. Not even duplicating a whole file copys the comments.

x2 adding a comment here to quantify the urgency of the need to be able to transfer comments between files 🙏

+1 on this…. drives me nuts as it doesn’t allow file clean up.

Bump.
I wonder what is the original intention for comments in Figma - because the ability to move / copy comments (between pages in the same file or different file) seems very intuitive / a no-brainer. So this is either a technical constraint or a business decision.
If it’s a business decision, then maybe Figma team can explain the intention better, and release another feature that facilitates better documentations.

Need this badly, Does Figma listen to their customers?

Hey everyone, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely understand the urgency around this, which is why I’ve flagged this again internally so the team can take it into consideration.

While I can’t make any promises around timelines or implementation, feel free to keep an eye on our release notes for any updates. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback!

Just piling on! Not being able to include comments in a duplicate file is a big pain point.
