I use pages to contain versions for very large feature explorations. My “Project” file gets bogged down very quickly because of the scale of my components, so I typically create an “[ARCHIVE] Project” file to accompany each project file at this point just to keep the memory usage as low as possible.

Each version contains multiple iterations, concept explorations, prototypes, contextual conversations, decision making points, counter-factuals, etc… The comments associated with deprecated / archived projects are critical to understanding the overall progression of an active project, along with its arc of design direction.

Currently, I manually copy+delete comments from active files and paste them to archive files. It is beyond tedious. Comments often feel like a second-class feature in Figma, and even this requested enhancement would be a huge increase in my QoL as a product designer.

adding a comment here to quantify the urgency of the need to be able to transfer comments between files 🙏

+1 Why wasn’t that already implemented? It’s over 2 years! It’s such an essential feature. Not even duplicating a whole file copys the comments.

+1 on this…. drives me nuts as it doesn’t allow file clean up.

Bump.
I wonder what is the original intention for comments in Figma - because the ability to move / copy comments (between pages in the same file or different file) seems very intuitive / a no-brainer. So this is either a technical constraint or a business decision.
If it’s a business decision, then maybe Figma team can explain the intention better, and release another feature that facilitates better documentations.

Hey everyone, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely understand the urgency around this, which is why I’ve flagged this again internally so the team can take it into consideration.

While I can’t make any promises around timelines or implementation, feel free to keep an eye on our release notes for any updates. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback!

Just piling on! Not being able to include comments in a duplicate file is a big pain point.

Hey everyone! 👋

After reading through this thread and seeing the demand, I built a plugin to solve this: Comments Mover

What it does:
- Bulk transfer comments between files
- Preserves original author names in comment text
- Works with any files you have access to
- Perfect for archiving, duplicating, or migrating projects

How it works:
1. Paste source file URL (where comments are)
2. Paste target file URL (must be a duplicate)
3. Select comments to transfer
4. Done! Comments appear in target file

Pricing:
- 2 free transfers to try it out
- Use code WELCOME for 15% off your first purchase

I built this as a solo developer after experiencing the same pain. If you have feedback or issues, email me at urasergeevich@gmail.com

Hope this helps! Let me know what you think.

WOW this features is so OVER DUE -  we need to be able to copy comments into a new file - why ?
Becuase clients want to move the project to thier team in the middle of work
Because we would like to duplicate a work without loosing the comments in the next sprint
Because we do period.

How: when you copy files drag to select press a modifier key like CMD+Shift+Ctrl+ v
what happens to the comments - they are added as new comments with new numbering
easy right - So just do it

+1, this is very needed in professional business setting. Companies use freelancers for UX/UI and sometimes need to change the contractor, so they need to have the ability to duplicate the project with all the comments to other account.

Yes, We really need this feature to be able to copy / move comments to another design file.
‘Comments’ are critical to our design process, team communication, and workflow.
